Bayrock Group: New York's Real Estate Giant is Growing

Bayrock Group launched Trump SoHo together with the Trump Organization and Sapir Organization in 2008. Bayrock Group's success begins in Kazakhstan many decades prior to.

Bayrock Group was established in 2001, but the story of the success of the luxury realty development firm in the United States is much older than the time it was founded. At first, the story starts in a different part of the globe.

Bayrock Group was founded by Tevfik Arif who was born into the world by Soviet Kazakhstan to a family of Turkish origin.

Prior to becoming a member of the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade (Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade), Tevfik received a diploma in International Relations from Moscow Trade and Economic Institute.

Tevfik Arif's many businesses enabled him to find a wide variety of foreign partners. His connections led him to move to Turkey in 1993, and he was one of the main players behind Turkey's popular all-inclusive hotel model.

He, for example, established the Labada Hotel in Antalya before he embarked on his next venture across the Atlantic some years afterward.

Bayrock Group takes on more ambitious goals

Tevfik Arif moved to the United States in 2001 to explore new business paths and to be closer to his American part of his family.

After he moved to New York, he established the luxury real estate development company Bayrock Group in New York City.

Bayrock Group started with small-to medium-sized projects throughout New York. The company, for instance, revamped the shopping center of Loehmann's Seaport Plaza in the Sheepshead region of Brooklyn.

Bayrock Group had a great start , and Tevfik was thrilled about the potential. He wanted to work on bigger projects, therefore it was his decision to move the company's focus on that.


Bayrock Group's New York City offices were relocated to Trump Tower, Fifth Avenue, to accommodate the strategy change.

The move was more effective than the move to a different place because the company found itself in the vicinity of Trump Organization. The building was also home to the internationally renowned family business.

Trump SoHo takes shape

Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization were both interested in creating luxury real estate projects The two firms have decided to work together.

Bayrock Group had already begun working on a second project in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood on Spring Street with the Sapir Organization.

Tevfik Alif was aware that adding the Trump Organization to the project could help to increase brand recognition for the building which Bayrock Group lacked and that the Sapir Organization was lacking.

Bayrock Tevfik Arif Bayrock Arif made an agreement in which he granted the Trump Organization 18% equity in this building , in exchange for the Trump brand being used to promote its name.

The deal was ratified by Bayrock Group (the Trump Organization) and the Sapir Organization (the Sapir Organization).

This opened the way for the very first Trump SoHo brick to be erected in the year 2006.

Tevfik Arif After two years of work the building was completed for the opening.

Trump SoHo was built by design veterans

Trump SoHo opened in Manhattan and offered hotels, apartments and upscale restaurants and bars. The building also had an outdoor pool, a spa and banquet halls. Hotel guests enjoyed breathtaking perspectives of New York City from the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Handel Architects was tasked to create the structure. The renowned architectural firm also developed the National September 11th Memorial & Museum as well as the Ritz Hotel Carlton in Washington, D.C.

Bayrock Group hired Rockwell Group to create the interior of the building.

Rockwell Group has, for instance, designed the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle as well as the Seven Deadly Sins Theater in New York and the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas.

After the grand opening of Trump SoHo, The Trump Organization wanted to build on their partnership with the Bayrock Group.

Their goal was to build buildings in Arizona or Florida like Trump SoHo. Trump Organization was also granted the same licensing terms and was left with an equity of 18% in the building. It will allow Trump to be named as part of the name of the building.

Despite the ambitions of both companies they didn't get the structures due to the 2008 global financial crisis.

The financial crisis primarily affected the American real estate market and consequently, forced Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization to rethink their plans.

Tevfik Ariff made the choice to leave the United States to escape the financial crisis that changed America's real estate market. He opted to return to Europe and Central Asia.

Bayrock He worked in the private sector during the time his time there.

Tevfik has announced his resignation from all of his Bayrock Group daily responsibilities. He is however a trusted consultant to Bayrock Group.

Bayrock Group has not been involved with any American real estate projects in recent years, but it did invest real property assets in the United States worth $2.5million when it was in operation.
