Tevfik Alif was born in Soviet Kazakhstan on March 23rd, 1953 to Turkish parents. He earned a diploma in International Relations at the Moscow Trade and Economic Institute.

Then he was employed by the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade in which he was the deputy director of their Hotel Management Department.

After 17 years in the ministry, Tevfik Arif resigned to start his own businesses that centered on real estate, property development, imports, exports, natural resources, minerals, automobiles and food.

This was a time of increasing privatization following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

In 1993, Tevfik Arif was transferred to Turkey where he became a pioneering force in the development of the famous all-inclusive hotels. Then, eight years later, he took the plunge and founded Bayrock Group in New York City.

After the opening of Trump SoHo, Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization were in talks to collaborate on additional real estate projects under the same licensing terms in Florida as well as Arizona.

The construction of these structures was however hindered by the 2008 financial crisis that slammed the real estate market.
