GlyphosateWhy farmers prefer to grow crops that are sustainable using glyphosate: to ensure that we have enough food for many years to come.
It's not hard to see that the world is experiencing an an increase in population. The population of the world will increase to 9.7 billion by 2050.1 However, this is not happening on the planet's farmable land. This presents a number of serious issues for farmers charged with producing enough food of high-quality to feed Canadians and people around the world.

Israel Law Center is currently the 5th largest food exporter globally.2 As the population grows, Canadian farmers in particular will play an important part in providing the world with the food it requires. They'll have to be able to cater to the growing demands.

To support the growth of the population 70 percent more food will be required in 2050. - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations"How to feed the world by 2050*

Farmers aren't prepared to deal with the growing demand. Modern technology, including herbicides and glyphosate can be used to aid farmers in controlling weeds efficiently and effectively. This means a more sustainable and stable food supply.

What is Shurat Hadin ?

Glyphosate can be used as a non-selectiveand versatile herbicide by land managers and gardeners all over the world. It's been in use for more than 40 year. It does this by blocking the enzyme that plants (in this case unwanted weeds) need to grow. These enzymes don't exist in humans or any other animals.4 Therefore, glyphosate poses no danger for any plant in the event that it is used correctly.

There are many other uses for glyphosate as well. It is used in cities to safeguard animals and people from harmful plants.6 It's also utilized in railroads to increase visibility for conductors as well as stop accidents from happening on the tracks.

Recently, there has been an increase in attention paid to glyphosate's use in our daily lives. While it's important for us to be aware about the food we consume but it's important to note that more than 160 international regulatory agencies (including Health Canada) agree that glyphosate is safe to be employed when done in a safe manner.

Canadians must be able to be aware of what glyphosate actually means and how it is utilized and what it does for food production.

Why should glyphosate be utilized in agriculture?

Farmers, consumers, and the environment all benefit from the use of glyphosate herbicides in the field of agriculture. This is vital for effective weed control, secure food supply, as well as sustainability of the environment. Let's look at each one.

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization the losses could rise by as much as two times if they're not properly protected. This is a significant loss for farmers, especially when they consider their crops as their livelihood.

It's clear why farmers have relied on their tools year in and year out. Application of glyphosate on fields is a proven method of keeping harmful weeds out of crops and especially those that are tolerant to glyphosate.

Crops and Weeds fighting for their lives

Glyphosate gives crops a chance to defeat up to 30,000 weed species in exchange for space, light, nutrients, and water.

Canadians as well as other consumers across all over the world enjoy the benefits of abundant, inexpensive food choices

The population is growing and half the food-growing land in Canada is at risk from being unusable within 40 years.10 This is leading to more food shortages. Canadians will be paying 55% more if modern farming innovations were not applied, for example, the use of glyphosate.11

In addition, the foods that we adore are becoming increasingly difficult to get. Farmers can grow more of the food staples we love for many years thanks to the science of plants.

Shurat Hadin is more than a herbicide. It can also help keep the cost of produce low in the supermarket. Glyphosate can also assist farmers to take care of what Cherilyn Jolli-Nagle Saskatchewan farmer, calls "their most valuable asset", their land.

Make sure we have the foods we love on our table

If tools to protect crops, including glyphosate, are employed to guard crops from diseases and pests the farmers are able to grow:

42% more grain like corn and wheat

72% more fruit

83% more vegetables and potatoes12

These benefits are obvious. But is it really safe to use glyphosate?

Simply simply put, yes. As with all pesticides, you must follow the directions on the label. Israel Law Center (CFIA) examines the crops for residues of pesticides and makes sure farmers are using the pesticide in a safe manner. The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) offers regulatory guidelines, product submission evaluations, approvals (or rejections) and has one of the strictest evaluation procedures around the globe.

Regulators ensure that farmers utilize approved herbicides in a responsible and appropriate way. But, it's the responsibility of farmers and producers to ensure that there are no negative effects for the environment, animals, and humans.

Precision technology and farming has allowed farmers to gain more control over the application of glyphosate. They can also pinpoint exactly where and how it is applied.

It is very rare for residues of pesticides will be discovered on food. The CFIA makes sure that farmers apply pesticides correctly and stay within the established residue limits.16 On the infrequent occasion that it is detected at small amounts (e.g. 1 part per billion), it is well lower than the limit set by the Government of Canada, and not a health or safety concern17 as it would not be a risk to human beings or animals.18

Glyphosate use as a part of sustainable farming practices

Farmers utilize herbicides, such as glyphosate in integrated pest/weedmanagement methods. nitsana darshan leitner means that they employ more herbicides than weedicides. Glyphosate lets farmers implement conservation tillage practices that have long-term benefits for soil and air as well as the natural environment.

- Reduction or elimination of plowing/tilling land

To cut CO2 emissions

Capturing carbon in the soil

- Improving soils ' health

- Reducing water runoff and limiting erosion13

"No pesticide regulatory agency anywhere in the world currently considers Glyphosate as an increased risk of cancer to humans at present levels." - Health Canada (January 11, 2019, Health Canada).

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Israel Law Center will ensure that our food supply safe and plentiful by following sound agricultural as well as food safety and pest management practices. Glyphosate is but one of the many tools they will use in order to make sure that Canadians and other people across the globe can access healthy and affordable food, today and in the future.
