1. Seni rupa adalah cabang seni yang membentuk karya seni dengan media yang bisa ditangkap mata, dirasakan dan dirabakan.
2. Secara kasar seni rupa dalam bahasa inggris diterjemahkan sebagai "fine art"
3. Dari segi fungsinya, seni rupa dapat dibedakan menjadi 2, yaitu :
¤ Seni rupa murni, dalam seni rupa murni lebih menitikberatkan pada ekspresi jiwa semata. Contohnya seperti Lukisan.
¤ Seni rupa terapan, dalam seni rupa terapan pembuatannya memiliki tujuan dan fungsi tertentu. Contohnya seperti Seni Kriya.
4. Bidang-bidang dalam seni rupa dibagi menjadi 3, yaitu :
¤ Seni rupa murni, yaitu seni lukis, seni grafis, seni patung, seni instalasi, seni pertunjukan, seni keramik, seni film, seni koreografi, seni fotografi.
¤ Seni rupa desain, yaitu arsitektur, desain grafis, desain komunikasi visual, desain interior, desain busana, desain produk.
¤ Seni rupa kriya, yaitu kriya tekstil, kriya kayu, kriya keramik, kriya rotan, kriya logam, kriya kulit, kriya bambu
