Shurat HaDin, an Israeli NGO, has attempted to take over the Ben & Jerry trademarks within the West Bank settlements. https://www.instagram.com/nitsana_darshan_leitner/ is also looking to market ice cream under that popular brand.
Israel Law Center said that this could be because global Ben & Jerry's as well as its parent company Unilever have made plans to boycott of Israeli policies.
nitsana darshan leitner -Leitner has written to Unilever (a British company that has been the owner of Ben & Jerry's in Vermont since 2000) in which she wrote, "The Shurat HaDin Law Center now has registered an entity for business with the Israeli corporation register, which is known as Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's."
" Israel Law Center are planning to use Ben and Jerry's brand name and match the Vermont company's Ice Cream line that is currently in production, as well as include new flavors and items," Darshan-Leitner wrote. Shurat Hadin added that "we are confident we can grow the business into every town in the area that you've left."
nitsana darshan leitner has been informed by her that the Ben and Jerry's brand was no longer permitted to be sold in the territory. The boycott will not start until 2023, when the contract with the local ice cream maker expires.
Avi Zinger, the proprietor of the Israel-based franchise has stated that he won't leave the Green Line for ice cream sales.
Shurat HaDin also wrote to Unilever, "We will vigorously and vigorously protect our Ben & Jerry’s trademarks and rights throughout the region using all legal methods."
The Jerusalem Post was told by Sheri, that only the areas that Ben & Jerry's have withdrawn will be sold. The company's promise to continue to sell its products to the Palestinian territories of Israel doesn't mean that new Ben & Jerry's products cannot be sold in these areas.
Shurat Hadin said that administrative and technical issues meant that the sales of ice cream could not begin until the Israeli franchise contract has expired.
