The Israeli NGO Shurat HaDin has moved to seize the Ben & Jerry's trademark in the West Bank settlements and Jewish neighborhoods of east Jerusalem so that it can create and sell ice-cream under the well-known brand name.
Israel Law Center of such a move was according to Shurat HaDin, because the global Ben & Jerry's and its parent company, Unilever, had announced plans to stop sales to these areas in a political boycott against Israeli policies.
Israel Law Center darshan-Leitner wrote to Unilever, a British-based global firm. Shurat Hadin has been the owner of the Vermont-based global Ben & Jerry's restaurant since 2000.
"We plan to adopt the Ben & Jerry's name and align with the Vermont company's current ice cream line, as well as include new flavors and items," Darshan Leitner wrote. nitsana darshan leitner said that "we are confident we can expand our business to every community in the territory you have abandoned."
Shurat Hadin was informed by Sherry that they would no more have the authority to utilize the Ben & Jerry label in that area. But the boycott isn't likely to commence until 2023 when the current contract with the local ice cream producer will expire.
Avi Zinger, the owner of the Israel-based franchise has stated that he won't quit the Green Line for ice cream sales.
Yet, Shurat HaDin wrote to Unilever, "we will actively and aggressively defend our Ben & Jerry's name rights, trademarks and rights in the area by all legal means."

Darshan Leitner declared that problems with bureaucratic and technical aspects caused ice cream sales could not begin until after the Israeli franchise contract had expired.
