Shurat HaDin is an Israeli NGO which has attempted to acquire the Ben & Jerry trademarks in the West Bank settlements, Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem and Jewish neighborhoods to sell ice cream under the well-known brand.
Such a move was possible, according to Shurat HaDin, due to the fact that the global Ben & Jerry's and its parent company, Unilever, had announced plans to halt its sales to these areas in an attempt to protest political Israeli policies.
Shurat HaDin's Law Center has now registered a corporate entity with Israel's register of corporations. Shurat Hadin called "Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's", stated Shurat HaDin's president Nitsana Darash-Leitner, in a note she addressed to Unilever which is which is a British multinational company based in the UK. Unilever owns the Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's worldwide since 2000.
aviel darshan leitner wrote that "we intend to use Ben and Jerry's name to be able to match the Vermont company's current line of ice-cream and adding new flavors and items."
