Here's a short story of my excursion to the Arctic via boat. It sounded wonderful, National Geographic trip thru ice and back, with Polar bears and many other wildlife. There would be ice wherever eyes could see and snow all around. Man-made machinery would battle the elements to break through the frigid north. It sounded like a magnificent project, a massive combat with the north weather, the north pole.
I was told to take with me all the technology I could fit in my suitcases. To make my work space larger, I packed my laptop. The electricity was not a problem according to the information they gave me. I wasn't sure what was to happen. I did not realize that I would be disconnected from my internet two days into my 14 day trip , and then disappear from the Earth for the following ten days. It happened, and I was shocked. No trip should, however complicated or remote, result in me to be disconnected from the world of technology. I wasn't planning for the downtime, in addition to having unfinished business that I needed to address during the coming week as well as other things I had to do.
These days nobody really cares about having to shut down. Internet is all around and if your home network is experiencing issues there are plenty of nearby McDonalds that provide free WiFi access. Bring your laptop to the nearby Starbucks and use the WiFi free connection to access the Internet whenever you want. North of the border, there's no cafe or restaurant that can assist you. You are a long way away from the nearest electricity source. You won't find free internet anywhere. There are two ways to escape from these situations. You can be offline or bring an internet connection via satellite.
converter cc A sat-phone is expensive and I'm unable to afford it. Before I leave for the dark, I'll have a large collection of audio and videos. Last time I had only 2 songs. The songs were downloaded back earlier in the day, and all I was able to listen to was 3 jazz songs and a song I had no idea the name of. That's it. Four songs in two weeks of no time. I would have prepared had I had known this would happen. I would have loaded my computer with shows from television, movies, and lots of music videos. My favourite podcasts were ones I would listen to for hours. It's very easy to download them, convert them to mp3 and save them to my PC. Then, I can simply lie in my bed and listen to the podcasts I like at home. This could be my golden hour, or 2 weeks of gold, but it ended up being 2 weeks of staring into the ceiling, and then running to catch passengers each time a sound comes from the corridors..
Both metaphorically and literally The journey was empty. I've never been so bored. I knew that the ice was thick, and the boat was left with no choice but to turn around and return to civilization. It was not surprising, but it meant that hours and hours of unproductive time could have been used to listen to podcasts or look at DIY videos on home repair, as well in listening to music. The next time, I'll convert YouTube videos into MP4 and MP3 formats on my laptop. There's no reason to feel down, music will always lift your spirits. Hulu, Netflix and other apps let you download movies and shows to stream offline. It is also possible to take them when you go on long trips to the arctic. Be sure to not be bored. mp3 converter yt Good luck!
