Online video storage is unpredictable. Websites can shut down or disappear. Here are some tips to back up your social media accounts on your laptop.

My story isn't very large. I was born, attended school, worked, labored, finally achieved something online.. However, it also has several traumatic moments where I believed that everything was gone forever. One of those moments was when my personal computer at home went silent... After some tweaking, getting a new desktop and moving the hard drive from one computer to the other, I was able to restore all the data saved on the drive. It took me 3 days of sweating and figuratively tears... After that I've learned one thing : to use Dropbox and personal ftp servers to backup my data both manually and automatically. my day's work so that nothing could ever be deleted.

This is definitely not the ideal option. The bigger your online data storage, the more you will need to pay to keep it. It's very simple and seems secure. It's possible to download it anywhere the internet allows. But what happens if you don't have access the internet? I'm happy to always keep my laptop with me for those times. It's my final safe harbour for backups. I have two drives there with one for each HDD. This lets them duplicate each other, and makes sure that only one copy is left in case of a failure. Since I don't do a lot of copying the laptop doesn't work very often. This is why I hope that not 2 drives will fail at the same time.

Another day of sorrow came couple of years ago. I make sure not to lose work. Like I said above, I now have multiple copies of it and am able to access it from wherever internet is available. It was Periscope. I used it a lot several years ago, and even this last summer 2020 during riots I was able to participate in some live streams.. Then all of a sudden Periscope TV is closing, and all videos will go away in a couple of weeks. What should I do? I want all the videos downloaded so that they can be stored off-line on my laptop. These videos are very close to my heart, they were my last time with my best friend during Covid.


It's a site I utilize to download video clips from Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, and other places. I am passionate about politics and underground movements. So, I record many live events, save them, post some on my Youtube channel, and then backup it on my laptop whenever it is over. This is the way I work. Plus it allows me to cross-post videos across various platforms. It's not just to share Youtube video on Facebook however, I can also upload that video onto Facebook and let it become an individual video on its own. It's incredible the amount of live streams have I created over the past eight years. I currently have three TB. It's not like I'm going to lose my Periscope lives.. This site has helped me tremendously.

It's as if it's magic. Open the Periscope video I want to download and copy the URL using the share link. Then I navigate to the site for downloading videos and paste the link to where they want it, hit big button and in seconds I see multiple choices to download the video, save it on my computer or desktop to copy it across other platforms, and to save it for the people I know and love. It's not every site that can assist with Periscope, but this one does well, it can handle m3u8 file formats that other sites usually download for you.. Those work, don't get me wrong however, they're actually using fragments of online video feeds which means that playing the file in VLC while works great, doesn't actually accomplish the task - video is not on your machine It's online and playing from the Internet when the player loads the short fragments 1 by 1...

Windows copy is a method to merge these fragments into a single file. This happens due to the format of video used to create the video fragments: Mpeg TS aka transport stream. The stream includes all information needed to decode each fragment. They are distinct from each other, allowing each newcomer to stream seamlessly. The browser also saves data by downloading 360 10 second files. It only downloads the streams you are currently watching. The user will get 3-4 fragments of the 25-second stretch and 1-2 following fragments in case it continues to watch the stream. This allows you to save lots of data by downloading just 25 seconds of stream video.
