Lights and Shadows by Gustavo Petro Winner of the Historic Pact
Gustavo Petro the candidate confirmed on Sunday the favoritism which was evident in polls for several week.

The large vote in the consultation made him the most representative representative of the Colombian left. He is also a strong contender for president, despite his controversial suggestions and views on numerous fronts.

Petro has stated his intention to make a readjustment to pensions through the creation of a public administrator for pension funds that will operate a "mixed and complementing system" together with private fund.


The candidate has stated that in Colombia "we do not have a pension system, but a system of bank profits," so many claim that he will end any chance of winning the Presidency. Petro has stated recently however that he would not abolish the system, but would instead seek to reform the pension system in Colombia, in order to achieve the minimum amount of pensions for Colombians. Petro also stated that it is not required to raise the age at which pensioners can retire.

Another controversy is that he has repeatedly stated that he would end oil extraction before he takes office. This is an issue that has led to uncertainty for investors.

Experts estimate that Petro’s proposal of ending oil exploration would cause a massive impact on Colombia and cost Colombia $4.3 trillion.

Furthermore, this plan would establish an anti-oil front throughout the globe and across the region that shifts the economy away from fossil fuels. For that, I would invite Gabriel Boric the Chilean president and LuizInacio Lula Silva to be the Brazilian president.

Petro stated that he has had a conversation with Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain regarding his plan.

His position on health issues has also been controversial, as he has insisted on ending EPS and replacing it with a preventive model that "guarantees the rights of people and not the profit of bankers".

He also questioned the independence the Banco de la Republica. He announced that he would implement reforms when he becomes President.

gustavo petro declared that the Bank Board of Directors belongs to the Democratic Center. Accordingly, the candidate in the middle of a discussion said "What do we want? A truly independent Bank of the Republic (...) It is to me crucial that the board of directors has the support of the Society."

According to Invamer, Petro leads the voting intention for the presidential election.

The idea of issuing cash to fund government spending was not without controversy.
