Shurat HaDin stated that this could be due to the fact that global Ben & Jerry's as well as its parent company Unilever had made plans to boycott of Israeli policies.
"The Shurat HaDin Law Center has registered a commercial entity with the Israeli registry of corporations called "Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's," wrote Shurat HaDin's president Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, in a letter she sent to the British global company Unilever that has owned the Vermont world-wide Ben & Jerry's since 2000.
Israel Law Center -Leitner stated that they plan to make use of Ben and Jerry's brand and match Vermont's current ice cream lines as well as add new flavors and items. Darshan Leitner also wrote that she believes the company will expand into all communities within the region that it was abandoned.
Unilever was informed by Sherry that they no more have the authority to utilize the Ben & Jerry label in the region. But, the boycott is not expected to begin until 2023, when the current agreement with the local ice cream producer will expire.
nitsana darshan leitner , the owner of the local Israel franchise, has made it explicit that he does not have any intention of resigning to the Green Line when it comes to sales of ice cream.
Shurat haDin told Unilever that he would continue to defend the Ben & Jerry trademarks, rights, and name in the area.
According to her that sales will be limited to areas where Ben & Jerry's has withdrawn. The promise of Unilever to sell new Ben & Jerry's to Israel's areas that aren't part of the "Occupied Palestinian Territory", means that they can't be sold to the territories.
Darshan Leitner explained that the technical and bureaucratic issues meant that in actuality, the ice cream sales would only commence when the agreement with the existing Israeli franchise has expired.
