Bring an iPad, laptop, and sometimes even an iPhone with videos to go camping with the kids.

This is something I learned the hard and painful way. My mother was always there to remind me to be prepared for any situation. My excitement for the first camping trip I took with my grandchildren, my kids, was all I shared with her. She was constantly guiding me through my preparations, giving me advice and guidance in every circumstance. I am not averse to my mom speaking. But not listening to her lectures is uncomfortable for me. I made a terrible mistake and learned that the next day, or two, was the fault of me.

We headed out with our car and were going to drive all up to the campsite. I was hoping to recreate the rural experience that I had with my dad back in the past, so I decided to go to one of the most remote spots. It turned out that the location was not located in an area with internet service. This meant that our smartphones were not available, and we were left completely isolated with no other campers. I'm not judging you as I had hoped to enjoy a wonderful trip off work.. We spent three days out in the natural surroundings, in the midst of the natural world.. Within 24 hours, we were driving to home.

What happened? We didn't have any bars or Internet access We had nothing. My laptop was on me, and it didn't even get into the bag. I made a nice backdrop for the trees to view little projector I brought with me for nice big-screen movies. But no Internet to connect to Hulu or Netflix. Netflix, no Disney+.. What an absolute mess.. My children were simply unbearable. They wanted to stay on top of their schoolwork to check their emails and even send me messages. I was tired of it and put everything in the car for the return journey. When we came out of the zone without wifi, my kids made sounds like little pigs enjoying delicious food... I love my children. This was embarrassing. They laughed and gasped when their phones began to ring and announced the arrival of messages from text.


Since then I have been more prepared and have tried to stay clear of an internet-free zone that doesn't allow for roaming. On our long cruise to get there, I realized that I needed two tablets and my laptop to keep me occupied. My tablet contains Hulu offline videos on one hand, and Netflix movies on the other. And the laptop has all my music videos and movies. I have approximately 600 hours of material to watch, including all the South Park, Friends, and Will & Grace seasons.

For children, I have lof of videos of humorous things. I downloaded music videos from Youtube, converted some to MP3 and MP4 formats to watch or listen. I used this web application to download a few videos. It allows me to save the video to my laptop and I can watch the video offline, provided I have electricity. I DVR lots of TV shows, movies as well as online lectures, seminars, etc, anything that's worthwhile to watch later. I save these videos in the format of mp4 to my laptop, later simply play them with VLC or KMP or any other software that plays video files and supports 4K.

4k is a second important aspect that I insist on. Have you ever seen? It's incredible! I would recommend it. There is great software in new TVs that can support 4K image. It processes the picture and improves it, upscales it. Older video appears better on the TV. Although it's not very good, it transforms into a smooth, contemporary video.
