Hermod adalah dewa pembawa pesan dan dia adalah anak dari Odin. Dia memiliki saudara bernama Balder dan Höd (Hod) yang buta. Namun ketika Hod membunuh Balder,hanya Hermod yg berani pergi ke dunia bawah. Hermod pergi ke dunia bawah untuk bertemu dg dewi kematian agar bisa menghidupkan Balder kembali. Tentu saja itu tidak mudah dan Hermod harus memenuhi permintaan dewi kematian. Permintaan tersebut lumayan susah untuk di kabulkan namun karna Hermod menyayangi Balder, Hermod pun tetap berusaha untuk memenuhinya.
Dewi Kematian meminta Hermod untuk membuktikan bahwa Balder memang dewa yang dicinta. Dewi Kematianpun menyuruh Hermod untuk mengumpulkan setetes air mata dari semua makhluk. Namun, usaha Hermod gagal karena seorang raksasa perempuan menolak menangis untuk Balder
