What is Young Adult Cancer?
There are a variety of cancers in young adults. Many of these cancers have distinct characteristics from those in older adults and children. Their genetics and biology differ from one another and they are more likely to be hereditary. In addition, treatment options may be different. The most common kinds of cancers that young adults suffer from are blood and thyroid cancers, testicular and breast cancers, as well as testicular and breast cancers. The prevalence of colon cancer is growing.

Hodgkin lymphoma

There are two types of lymphoma found in young adults: Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin. Hodgkin lymphoma is less common among young adults than non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Thyroid cancer is most often diagnosed in the adolescent years. The disease is usually diagnosed after a nodule is found.

Lung cancer

The rise of lung cancer among young adults has had specific socioeconomic implications. A study was conducted to identify the clinical pathological characteristics and most suitable treatments for patients with lung cancer who are young. The study examined the data on lung cancer from patients between January 2010 to June 2017. The study identified young adults as those aged 18 to 35 years. Clinicopathological and prognostic data were then analyzed.

Cancers of the nervous and brain

A new study has analyzed the frequency of CNS and brain cancer in young adults. According to the National Cancer Database, 7% of young adults have the CNS cancer. The study examined the prevalence of brain and CNS cancers in young adults aged between 20 and 39 years. It indicates that these kinds of cancers are more prevalent in young adults, but the authors acknowledge that the risk for these kinds of cancers is still very high.
