The phrase "Fan Tan" was something I had not heard of before. I did a search for "Fan Tan" on Google. It returned a few results. A few websites had pictures of the real thing but no other details. It was strange that little information was available. I decided to dig deeper into the background of the term in order to learn more.
According to the etymology dictionary the word's origin is "a tan or streak of dark brown." Based on this, I am able to conclude that the word originated from the long-running gambling game played by Egyptians. If you take a look back at time, you will find that the Egyptians employed the identical Fan Tan formula we use to play the game. http://www.socialbookmarkssite.com/user/thronebit3 You are probably aware that black and brown are considered to be lucky colours for players of the game. This is an important rule to remember.
The earliest written works I discovered that discussed the origin of "fan-tan" were from ancient Chinese newspapers and books. I'm not sure that they meant the Taninese version of the term or the original Chinese Fan Tan however, it does give me an idea of the origins of the term. This is important as most people associate the name's origin with betting or Chinese games.
The first writings in the early writings discuss the roots of "fan Tan-Tan" and are originally from Northern China. This is the region that you will typically see in most of the casino games that are based on the ancient Chinese theme. In particular, the majority of roulette games are performed in the Northern Chinese style. They are very popular in Chinatown, where you can be able to see many gamblers.
The Northern regions of China are where the roots of "Fan Tan-tan" which is the name given to the term, actually lie. Locals would wager on high-stakes games. This usually meant that the game was a rice gambling or similar game. They would place these bets so that they could earn money by winning.
The disadvantage of the Northern Chinese gambling style was the low payouts. You might believe that luck will continue to run wild if you win a lot of money. But, since there was not much money to make and this was not the scenario. People started placing larger bets in times when wages weren't as impressive. The reason for this was to ensure you would have at least the chance of winning by using your Fan Tan.
For placing bets on multiple positions, we now use the name Fan Tan. This is a variation of the classic betting game. There is one rule that has changed that is: bets have to be placed on at least four different bets. You cannot play Fan Tan with just one hand or play it with just four objects. Although the principle is complicated, it is easy to comprehend. Each object measures four inches long. Every bet has its own classification, making it easy to keep track of.
This doesn't mean you can't play Fan Tan today, just that you need to play it on a much smaller size. If you're playing just only one hand at a time then you can easily concentrate on the most important aspects like double the amount of chips you have, winning large pots or making credits for games you participate in. If you have five hands available, then you need to make sure that you double your bets for each category (the exception being odd numbers) in order to get credit. If you're playing a five-card game, you should place bets on three of the five cards that are in the same suit.
