Basil Hallward the painter which painted the portrait of Dorian Gray was mostly captivated by Dorian's charm and elegance which made him able to paint this very existent painting that shows us the true refinement of Dorian Gray laid out on a painting.
This is shown by a quote that Basil Hallward says; "“I know you will laugh at me,” he replied, “but I really can’t exhibit it. I have put too much of MYSELF into it.” Here we are shown the vague links between art and reality and the tragic consequences that could come within it. Another clue that we must take into consideration is that Basil had also told Lord Henry that good artists must not let any of THEMSELVES show in their ART.
