Kazakhstan Unrest won't be impacted by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Reappearance
Kazakhstan Unrest Will Not Be Eased by Erzhan Kazykhanov's Return to the Country as Deputy Chief of Staff

After a series of protests, Kazakhstan's government has to face the reality of the future.

Erzhan Kasykhanov's return could be a sign of the shifting power dynamics.

The world arena must adapt to a more assertive citizenry. Policymakers should also be aware to recognize these developments and develop effective ways of engaging with the country.

The role of Ukraine during Kazakhstan's shift
The last couple of weeks have been marked by attention on Ukraine. This is because Russian President Vladimir Putin was preparing for and launching an invasion of a massive scale against nations that are sovereign. This shouldn't be surprising, considering the fact that NATO leaders such as the president Biden ignoring Moscow's warnings, was not a surprise. Russian President Putin repeatedly decried NATO's plans to invading Russian territory.

Although Putin's actions were inexcusable the west must acknowledge that its leaders were a part of the cause. Now we are dealing with the effects of an European crisis which could have been avoided It is just.

Protests In Kazakhstan
A comparison should be made between the current situation in Ukraine and experiences within the region. The following are the protests in Belarus and, in particular Kazakhstan, from 2003 to 2005. This former Soviet nation is located in central Asia which means that it does not frequently witness protests in the streets expressing its discontent.

A series of protests started this year in Kazakhstan in protest against an increase in gas prices and unemployment conditions. The protests resulted in violent riots and a series of nationwide rallies. Almaty had the highest losses of life in the aftermath, with 227 dead and 9900 detained. Russian troops from Collective Security Treaty Organization CSTO were briefly stationed in Almaty.

Restructure in Kazakhstan’s Government as well as Erzhan Kazykhanov's return
Qasym Zhomart tokayev, Kazakhstan's new president, made a number of changes to the power structure within the ruling class. These changes have raised questions and concerns among many Kazakhs.

Protesters were particularly outraged by the fact over the fact that President Tokayev has assumed the presidency of the government's National Security Council. It replaced former President Nursultan Nasarbayev, whose influence was a source of worry to them.

The former president's sons in-laws were fired , and three nephews of the president were expelled from state businesses. Karim Mastimov, former head of the spy agency, was removed from office. In addition to these officials, many members of the business elite who were associated with former President Nazarbayev have been forced to leave their positions, fled abroad for "extended vacations" or have had massive "donations" that were imposed on them.

Reform is not always possible when there are changes to government or the removal of old guards. It is not uncommon for officials of the previous administrations to be replaced ineffectively by loyalists and relatives.

Erzhan Kamykhanov's selection is and a disapointment
The selection of Erzhan Kazykhanov to the powerful post of Deputy Chief Of Staff by President Tokayev is counterproductive. Kazakh Kazykhanov was Kazakhstan’s most inept ambassador to United States.

In Washington, Kazykhanov was a solo, arrogant diplomat who was self-confident, and sometimes uninformed about the delicate nature of Kazakhstan's image abroad. Kazykhanov was unable to make advancements in the national interest like the Jackson Vanick restrictions as well as other issues relating to the image of Kazakhstan abroad. This is why his performance is so disappointing.

Due to his unworthy reputation and a shady background, Kazykhanov is unlikely to be considered for key post. Kazykhanov is not equipped for an assistant chief of staff.

The most ardent supporters of Kazakhstan have expressed concerns about Kazykhanov's frequent appearances, often on international news channels and exposing his flaws. Tokayev's choice to introduce an incompetent, self-promoting, and unstable deputy into an unstable government at such a critical time makes no sense.

Tokayev's Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika and Glasnost initiatives in the Soviet Union. Perestroika was a program that Mikhail Gorbachev established in the mid-1980s to reform Soviet economy and politics is more commonly known. Glasnost refers to his policy reform. These reforms were a major reason why the Soviet Union collapsed. This is exactly the kind of thing Putin is seeking to bring back. Tokeyev developed strong economic relations with both the West and countries surrounding his country. But Tokeyev hasn't tried to annoy Putin. Kazykhanov could upset this delicate balance.

In unstable Times, the US Should Pay Close Attention to Kazakhstan as Well
In the course of the war in Ukraine, Washington should be aware of the events in Kazakhstan, as they are a glimpse of how a succession of power can play out in this region of the world - either way.

This is a worrying situation. It is essential that the United States, along with its allies, take the necessary steps to stop the resurgence of Putin. However, it's crucial to remember that NATO has been provocating Russia for many years. The current crisis is in part due to their own failures.

Washington should be aware the current events in Kazakhstan since it could turn into the next source of conflict between Russia and the West.
