Kazakhstan Unrest will not be Influenced by Erzhan Kazykhanov's Return
Kazakhstan Unrest will not be alleviated by Erzhan Kazykhanov's return to the Country as Deputy Head of Staff

After a string of protests in Kazakhstan and elsewhere, the government is forced to face an entirely new reality.

Erzhan Kazykhanov's recent return demonstrates the shift in power dynamics.

The international community must adapt to a more confident citizenry. In addition, policymakers need be cognizant of these developments and devise effective methods to engage with the country.

Ukraine's Role in Kazakhstan's Change
In the last few weeks, NATO the world has turned its focus on Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin had been planning and launching an attack against an independent state. This is no surprise considering that NATO leaders, including the Biden, the President of NATO Biden have ignored warnings from Moscow. Russian President Putin repeatedly condemned NATO's plans to attack Russian territory.

While Putin's actions are inexcusable, the west must acknowledge that its leaders played a role in the crisis. We now face the consequences of a European Crisis that could not be prevented.

Protests in Kazakhstan
A comparison should be made between the situation in Ukraine and the recent experiences within the region. The color revolutions of 2003 to 2005 are included here along with tensions in Belarus and in particular Kazakhstan. As a former Soviet nation located in central Asia It is rarely seen street protests that openly express their discontent.

A series of protests started in the beginning of this year in Kazakhstan over an increase in gas prices and unemployment conditions. The protests escalated into massive demonstrations, which culminated in violent protests. Almaty was the worst hit, with 227 deaths and over 9900 being detained. Russian soldiers from the Collective Security Treaty Organization were briefly stationed.

Restruct Kazakhstan Government's Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov.
Qasym Zhomart Tokayev the new Kazakhstan president has brought about many changes to the power structure that caused concern and anger among many Kazakhs even in moments of peace.

Protesters are particularly upset by President Tokayev’s plan to assume the headship of the government's National Security Council. He will succeed former President Nursultan Nagayev, whose influence on the economy of the country was a source of concern for them.

Three of the sons-in-laws of the former president were ejected from the state enterprises they worked for. His nephew was dismissed and Karim Masimov was arrested on treason charges. Numerous business elite members associated with former President Nazarbayev lost their positions or emigrated abroad for lengthy vacations or received massive "donations."

Reform doesn't always result from changes in government and the elimination or retention of former guards. It is all too common for loyalists as well as relatives of the previous administration to replace them.

Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Apppointment Is Unsatisfactory
Erzhan Kasykhanov's appointment to President Tokayev’s highly influential post as Deputy Chief of Staff was unproductive. Kazakh Kazykhanov was Kazakhstan’s most inept ambassador to United States.

Washington resents Kazykhanov as an arrogant, aloof diplomat, too self-confident, and often out of touch when it comes to the sensitive image of Kazakhstan in the world. Kazykhanov also did not get any momentum in matters of national importance, including the continuing restrictions on Jackson-Vanick or other issues related to Kazakhstan's reputation in the world So his performance was unexceptional.

Kazykhanov is an unlikely candidate for positions of vital importance due to his problematic and unpopular reputation. Kazykhanov isn't a skilled professional in diplomacy, broad expertise or ability as a Deputy Chiefs of Staff.

Even Kazakhstan's most passionate supporters were uncomfortable with Kazykhanov's appearances on international news networks. The media exposed his flaws. Tokayev's decision in such a critical moment to bring in an incompetent, self-promoting deputy to a weak, unstable government makes no sense.

Tokayev's Kazakhstan reforms are in some ways reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika and Glasnost initiatives in the Soviet Union. Perestroika (of Mikhail Gorbachev) is a mid-1980s programme which reformed Soviet economics. Glasnost refers back to his policy reform. This reform was largely responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Putin is currently trying to reverse the trend. Tokeyev also has established economic relations with both his own country and the West. He has tried to avoid causing offence Putin and to retain his support. This delicate balance might be disturbed by Kazykhanov.

In unsteady Times The US should pay attention to Kazakhstan as well
Washington should be paying at Kazakhstan's actions during the conflict in Ukraine. They are the first glimpse of what a power succession could look like in this part of the world, either for better or worse.

The attack on Ukraine by Russian forces is a troubling incident, and it's vital that the United States and its allies respond appropriately to Putin's aggression. We should not forget the fact that NATO has been prodding Russia for many years and this current crisis is a direct result of their incompetence.

Washington must be aware of the events in Kazakhstan as it could become the next point of contention between Russia and the West.
