Shurat HaDin, an Israeli NGO has sought to seize Ben & Jerry’s trademark in West Bank settlements. https://twitter.com/shurathadin allows it to manufacture and sell ice-cream under the famous brand.
Israel Law Center explained that this move was made possible because Ben & Jerry's global and parent company, Unilever, had planned to stop selling to these regions in response to an opposition to Israeli policies.
"The Shurat HaDin Law Center has registered a business entity with the Israeli registry of corporations called "Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's," wrote Shurat HaDin's president Nitsana Darshan-Leitner in an email she wrote to the British global company Unilever, which has owned the Vermont globally based Ben & Jerry's since 2000.
Darshan Leitner wrote that "we intend to use Ben & Jerry’s name and match Vermont company’s current ice-cream line as well as introduce new flavors and products."
nitsana darshan leitner was told by Sherry that they no more have the authority to utilize the Ben & Jerry label in the region. But, nitsana darshan leitner is not likely to commence until 2023 when the current agreement with the local producer of ice-cream will expire.
Avi Zinger is the franchisee of the franchise in Israel. He has made it clear his plan to stick within the Green Line regarding ice cream sales will not be affected by the Green Line.
Israel Law Center wrote Unilever that the company would continue to fight for the Ben & Jerry trademarks, rights and the Ben & Jerry name.
nitsana darshan leitner explained to The Jerusalem Post that sales are limited to those areas Ben & Jerry's has withdrawn from. The assurance of Unilever that it will continue to sell to the Palestinians of Israel does not mean that new Ben & Jerry's products cannot be sold in these areas.
Darshan Leitner also stated that Darshan Leitner also stated that Israeli franchise agreements are no longer valid and that ice-cream sales would be possible once they expire.
