Shurat HaDin is an Israeli NGO that has sought to acquire the Ben & Jerry trademarks in the West Bank settlements, Jewish neighborhoods of East Jerusalem and Jewish neighborhoods so it can sell icecream under its well-known brand.
Israel Law Center was a possibility according to Shurat HaDin, due to the fact that the world-wide Ben & Jerry's and its parent company, Unilever, had announced plans to stop sales to those areas as an act of protest against Israeli policies.
Shurat HaDin's Law Center is now registered as an entity as a corporation with Israel's register of corporations. It's called "Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's", stated Shurat HaDin's President Nitsana Darash-Leitner in a letter she sent to Unilever, a British based global company. Unilever owns the Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's worldwide since 2000.
Darshan-Leitner stated that they plan to utilize Ben & Jerry's brand and match Vermont's current ice cream line and also introduce new flavors and items. Darshan Leitner also wrote she is convinced that the company can be expanded into all communities within the area that it was abandoned.
Shurat Hadin informed Unilever that it no longer had the right to utilize the Ben & Jerry's brand in the territory despite the fact that the boycott is not due to start until 2023, when the current contract with the local ice cream producer expires.
Avi Zinger, the owner of the local Israel franchise, has been clear that he has no plans to leave the Green Line when it comes to ice cream sales.
nitsana darshan leitner has written Unilever that he would continue to defend the Ben & Jerry trademarks, rights, and name in the area.
The Jerusalem Post was told by Sheri that only those areas in which Ben & Jerry's have withdrawn would be sold. nitsana darshan leitner to continue to offer its products to areas in Israel which aren't part of "Occupied Palestinian Territory" means that the new Ben & Jerry's can not be sold there.
Darshan Leitner also stated that the Israeli franchise agreements have been canceled and that ice-cream sales would be possible once they expire.
