Israel Law Center has moved to obtain the Ben & Jerry's trademark in the West Bank settlements and Jewish areas of east Jerusalem to create and sell ice-cream there under the well-known brand name.
Shurat HaDin said that this was due to the fact that the world-wide Ben & Jerry's as well as its parent company Unilever had declared plans for a boycott of Israeli policies.
Israel Law Center darshan-Leitner sent a letter to Unilever, a British-based global firm. Unilever has been the owner of the global Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's restaurant since 2000.
Darshan Leitner said that the Ben and Jerry's brand name will be used to represent Vermont's Ice Cream line and also to introduce new flavors. She added that the "we believe that the" company will expand to the areas where that was abandoned.
She told Unilever that it no longer has the right to use the Ben and Jerry's label in that territory despite the fact that the boycott is not due to begin until 2023, after which the contract that was in place with the local ice cream maker expires.

However, aviel darshan leitner wrote to Unilever, "we will actively and vigorously defend Ben & Jerry's name, rights and trademarks in the field by any legal methods."

Darshan Leitner stated that due to bureaucratic and technical difficulties the sales of ice cream would not begin until the Israeli franchise agreement has expired.
