What is Roundup Ready?
What is Roundup ready and what are Roundup-ready plants? Roundup Ready is a trademark name used to describe a patent-pending line of genetically modified seeds which are insensitive to the herbicide that is based on glyphosate called Roundup. These are referred to as Roundup Ready crops.

Roundup, then, was it really created?
Glyphosate is the active agent in Roundup, was first discovered to be an herbicide in the year 1970, by Monsanto chemist, John Franz. ラウンドアップ used in the agricultural industry were pre-emergent. This meant that they were applied prior to the crop and the weeds emerged. Glyphosate's post-emergent activity in tackling large amounts of grass weeds and broadleaf weeds was quite different. This, in conjunction with its remarkable environmental characteristics (soil activation, rapid decay, no carry-over etc.) as well as toxicological characteristics (extremely low toxicity for mammals and beneficial organisms) it created a new paradigm in the field of herbicides.

What year was it that Roundup was created?
Roundup(r) was first introduced in 1974 as an insecticide that was broad-spectrum, quickly became a leading global agricultural chemical. ラウンドアップ was initially employed on railroads, in ditches as well as on fields during the growing season. This helped farmers manage the broadleaf and grass weeds that were growing in the soil. It also reduced the need to tillage and maintained the soil's structure.

The next step was Roundup Ready GMOs.
Monsanto scientists were fascinated by the revolutionary developments in recombinant technology during the the 1970s. Monsanto scientists realized the numerous benefits Roundup(r could provide farmers. It could be used directly on crops to control the spread of weeds. The challenge was first tackled by a small team of scientists, led by Dr. Ernie Jaworski (Rob Horsch and Steve Rogers), The first systems to introduce genes into the plant were created by this group during the first half of 1980. After that, our focus shifted towards creating virusesresistant, insect resistant, and Roundup-tolerant plants.

It was found that Roundup was able to block the biochemical pathways of plants that produce aromatic amino acids. (Both animals as well as humans do not have this pathway, which is why Roundup's superior level of mammalian security). Furthermore it was rapidly decomposed in the soil by microorganisms. Our scientists discovered both plant and microbe genes that conferred resistance to herbicides. The USDA approved the first field testing of Roundup Ready plants in 1987. This was a Roundup resistant plant that was genetically modified to produce tomato plants that were tolerant to Roundup. In the following decades the Roundup Ready gene which would later become the main trait of the Roundup Ready crop was discovered. It was later identified and then introduced into crop.

Let's start with soybeans. The answers to the questions "What are Roundup Ready soybeans?" and "How are Roundup-Ready soybeans made?" will help us comprehend how soybeans are produced. https://search.rakuten.co.jp/search/mall/%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A6%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%82%A2%E3%83%83%E3%83%97+%E3%83%9E%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%E3%83%AD%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89/ is a genetically engineered type of soybeans with its DNA changed so that they are resistant to the herbicide Roundup. Every soybean seed that is bred with the Roundup Ready gene was introduced into the plant before it's planted. This makes them resistant to glyphosate. That means farmers can spray their fields with herbicide to eliminate weeds without harming their crops.

Today over 90% of U.S. cotton, soybean and canola fields have biotech-based traits that allow the herbicide to be tolerant. Apart from reducing and improving weed control methods that increased yields for crops Roundup Ready crops cut down on the amount of tillage required and decreased the expense of equipment and also allowed for more efficient harvests because of "cleaner areas" with fewer weeds. An environmental major benefit has been the rise in conservation cultivation. farmers can cut down on the use of energy as well as GHG emissions. They can also preserve soil structure while preserving soil structure. In 2013 it was equivalent to removing 28 billion kilograms of CO2 from the air. ラウンドアップ is equivalent to taking 12.4 million cars from the road for one year (Source: PG Economics).
