Kazakhstan Unrest won't be lessened by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov s Return to the Country As Deputy Chief of Staff
After a string of protests that rocked Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's government has to confront a new reality.
Erzhan Kazykhanov 's recent return demonstrates the change in the dynamics of power.
The world arena must adapt to an increasingly confident citizenry. In order to effectively engage with the country, policymakers must also be aware of the changes.
The Role of Kazakhstan's Ukraine in Kazakhstan's shift
The last few weeks have witnessed everyone's attention turn to Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin planned and launched an enormous invasion against the sovereign nation. This is not surprising, considering the fact that NATO leaders, including Biden, President of NATO, Biden not listening to Moscow's warnings was not a surprise. Russian President Putin has repeatedly decried NATO's plan to invade Russian territory.
Although Putin's actions were inexcusable they must admit that western leaders were a part of the cause. We are now facing the consequences of a European Crisis that could not be prevented.
Protests in Kazakhstan
It is important to draw a comparison between the current situation in Ukraine and experiences in the region. This includes the color revolutions of 2003-2005, and the unrest that occurred in Belarus as well as Kazakhstan. It is an ex- Soviet state that is located in central Asia. Thus it is rare to see street protests that show its discontent so clearly.
Protests over rising gas prices and unemployed conditions started in Kazakhstan in the early part of the year. The protests grew into national rallies followed by violent riots. Almaty suffered the worst losses of life with 227 people killed and over 9900 people detained. Russian troops of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) were temporarily deployed.
Restruct Kazakhstan Government's Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov.
Qasym Zhomart tokayev Kazakhstan’s new president, made a number of changes to the power structure of the ruling elite. These have raised questions and concerns among many Kazakhs.
Protesters were furious over the decision of President Tokayev to assume the presidency of the National Security Council replacing ex-President Nursultan Nazabayev. The protesters were concerned about his influence on the country's economy.
Three sons-in-law of the former president were exiled from the state enterprises they worked for. His nephew was dismissed and Karim Masimov was arrested in connection with treason allegations. Numerous people from the business community who were associated with the former president Nazarbayev were also exiled from state companies, fired, and many others went to Europe for "extended holidays." They were also given large "donations."
Changes in the government and the removal of old guards don't always bring about reform. It is all too common for loyalists and relatives of the former administration to succeed them.
Erzhan Kazykhanov 's Appointment Is an Unsatisfying Experience
The appointment of Erzhan Kazykhanov to the powerful position of Deputy Chief of Staff by President Tokayev is counterproductive. Kazakhstan's most ineffective ambassador to the United States was Kazakh Kazykhanov.
Kazykhanov established an image in Washington as an aloof and arrogant diplomat, who was overly self-confident and often not in touch with the sensitive nature of his country's image outside of the country. He has also failed to move forward on issues of national interest such as the Jackson-Vanick restrictions that are currently in place and other issues related to the international image of Kazakhstan. His performance is therefore dismal.
Due to his unworthy reputation and a shady background, Kazykhanov is unlikely to be considered for key positions. Kazykhanov's skills as a Deputy Chief of Staff is restricted to diplomacy and broad knowledge, and competence.
Many of Kazakhstan's most loyal supporters weren't happy with Kazykhanov's frequent appearances on international news outlets, which revealed his weaknesses. Tokayev's choice at this crucial time to hire an incompetent and self-promoting deputy into a fragile unstable, unstable government doesn't make sense.
https://beforeitsnews.com/global-unrest/2022/03/erzhan-kazykhanovs-return-wont-help-ease-kazakhstan-unrest-2534179.html 's Kazakhstan reforms are in some ways reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika and Glasnost initiatives in the Soviet Union. Perestroika (of Mikhail Gorbachev) is a mid-1980s programme which reformed Soviet economics. Glasnost refers back to his policy reform. The reforms resulted in the demise of Soviet Union. Putin is seeking a revival. Tokeyev has also forged trade relations with nations that are in close proximity to his as well as with the West as well, and is careful not to annoy Putin and instead remain steadfast in his support. This delicate balance could be shattered by Kazykhanov.
In unstable Times and the US should pay attention to Kazakhstan as well
Washington must be aware of the events in Kazakhstan during the conflict in Ukraine. These incidents are an example of the ways in which a power shift could occur in this region of the globe, whether it is either for the better or worse.
This is a troubling situation. It is crucial to ensure that the United States, along with its allies, take the necessary steps to counter Putin's aggression. However, NATO has been inciting Russia for years. The current conflict is in large part due to their incompetence.
Washington should pay particular attention to Kazakhstani events. It could be the next flashpoint of the conflict between Russia, the West and Russia.
