Kazakhstan Unrest Won't Be Effected By Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Reappearance
Kazakhstan Unrest Will Not be Eased By Erzhan Kazykhanov's Return to the Country as Deputy Chief of Staff

Following a string of protests, Kazakhstan's government faces the reality of the future.

Erzhan Kazykhanov's recent return shows the shift in power dynamics.

The international arena must now adjust to an increasingly assertive citizenry. This change must be taken into account in the plans of policymakers to engage with their country.

Ukraine's Role in Kazakhstan's shift
The past couple of weeks have seen all eyes be focused on Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin planned and launched an enormous invasion against an independent nation. Considering the fact that NATO leaders including President Biden, ignored the warnings coming from Moscow, this was not a complete surprise. Russian President Putin has repeatedly resisted NATO's attempts to invade Russian territory.

Although Putin's actions are unjust Western leaders must acknowledge that their mistakes contributed to the crisis. We are now dealing with the effects of an European crisis that could have been prevented It is just.

Protests are held in Kazakhstan
One comparison between Ukraine's current situation and the past is to be considered. The color revolutions of 2003 to 2005 are included here and also unrest in Belarus and in particular Kazakhstan. As a former Soviet country located in central Asia Kazakhstan is not often a part of protests on the streets so publicly expressing their discontent.

A series protests were started in Kazakhstan in the beginning of 2012, in protest of the increase in gasoline prices and also the deteriorating job market. The protests turned violent riots and nationwide rallies. Almaty witnessed the biggest loss of life in the city, with 227 dead and more than 9900 being held. The Russian troops from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, (CSTO) were temporarily stationed.

Restructuring of Kazakhstan's Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov 's Return
Qasym ZhomartTokayev, Kazakhstan's elected president has brought about a variety of modifications to the power structures within its top tier of government. This has raised questions, concerns, discontent and anxiety for many Kazakhs during peacetime.

Protesters are especially upset over President Tokayev's plans to become the head of the government's National Security Council. He replaces the former president Nursultan Nagayev whose influence on the economy of the country was a source of concern for them.

These events led to three sons-in-law of former President Nazarbayev getting removed from their positions and dismissed from state companies. Karim Masimov, the former head of the spy agency was arrested on treason convictions. Alongside these officials, numerous members of the business elite who were associated with former President Nazarbayev have been forced to leave their jobs, or fled to other countries to seek "extended vacations," or had hefty "donations" made to them.

Reform is not always derived from government changes and the removal or retention of old guards. It is not uncommon for officials from the earlier administrations to be replaced ineffectively by loyalists or family members.

Erzhan Kamykhanov's appointment is and a disapointment
It is counterproductive to note that Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov was appointed to the powerful post of deputy chief of staff, of the President Tokayev. Kazakhstan's most ineffective ambassador to the United States was Kazakh Kazykhanov.

In Washington, Kazykhanov was a lonely, arrogant diplomat confident, and occasionally out of touch with the delicate characteristics of Kazakhstan's image overseas. His handling of issues of national significance, like the Jackson-Vanick restriction and other issues relating to Kazakhstan's image overseas, is not without fault.

Due to his controversial and unresolved past, Kazykhanov seems unlikely to be selected for key post. Kazykhanov is not equipped to be the deputy chief of staff.

Many of Kazakhstan's most loyal supporters weren't happy with Kazykhanov's frequent appearances on international news channels, which revealed his weaknesses. Tokayev's decision to not allow an unpopular self-promoting, incompetent, and self-promoting deputy to be a part of a fragile system at such a crucial time is absurd.

Tokayev's Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika in the Soviet Union and Glasnost. Perestroika is often referred to as the mid-1980s' program of Mikhail Gorbachev to improve Soviet political and economic systems. Glasnost was a reference to his policy reform. This reform was largely responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Putin is working to reverse that trend. https://euroweeklynews.com/2022/04/27/should-the-us-focus-on-erzhan-kazykhanovs-alarming-return/ is also a staunch advocate of Putin's economic relations with other countries around his country. This delicate balance may be disturbed by Kazykhanov.

When Times are Unsteady and the US should pay particular attention to Kazakhstan
Washington should pay close attention to the events in Kazakhstan during the conflict within Ukraine. These events are an indication of the ways in which a power shift can take place in this part of the world, regardless of whether it is either for the better or worse.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is an alarming trend. It is imperative that the United States (and its allies) adopt the necessary steps to confront Putin's aggressiveness. It is important to remember that NATO has been prodding Russia for many years and that the current crisis is partly a result of their incompetence.

Washington should pay special focus on the events in Kazakhstan. It could be the next point of friction in the war between Russia the West, the West and Russia.
