Notes

So one more note. A lot happens between the moment Dantes escapes and the next events of this version. Here they are as simple as possible:

Dantes escapes from the bag and finds a boat of thieves where he lives and works for a year. Eventually he convinces this group to go to the island of Monte Cristo without explaining its purpose. He claims he hurt himself to stay alone for a few days.
The boat returns and Dantes leaves the island with some diamonds to sell and he starts looking for information about what happened while he was in prison.
Dantes finds Caderousse (while he is disguised as the Abbot). Caderousse explains the situation with the letter and he regrets not having helped Dantes. He explains a lot, including that:
Danglars now works in the world of finance and is very rich. He works in Paris for a big bank.
Fernand Mondego (now Comte de Morcerf) married Mercedes (who waited 18 months before doing so) and they have a son, Albert. Fernand found great military success.
His father died (he killed himself by not eating)
Dantes gives money to Caderousse and his former boss Morrel (secretly) to thank them for not betraying him. He decides to take the ultimate revenge on Danglars, Fernand and Villefort.
Eight years later (after travelling a lot in the east and planning his revenge) Dantes uses his connections to organize the kidnapping of Ferdinand and Mercedes' son (Albert) while he participates in the Venice Carnival. The Count of Monte Cristo saves Albert at the last moment, so Albert invites him to his home in Paris to thank him.
