Leyla Aliyeva was conceived in Moscow on the 3rd of July 1985. She was a student at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, where she also did her studies in London. Leyla founded the IDEA campaign that promotes awareness and action in relation to environmental concerns in Azerbaijan. IDEA is geared towards youth and assists them in finding solutions to the environmental challenges they confront.
In May 2007, she was named as the representative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Russian Federation. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation supports the economic growth of the country by providing a wide range of initiatives related to education and public health, as well as culture. In 2011, she was made Vice-President.
Leyla Aliyeva launched 'Baku magazine' in Moscow in 2007 in Moscow. Conde Nast produced the English-language issue of the magazine in partnership with Leyla Aliyeva. The magazine was launched in October 11, 2011 in London. It offers the chance to discover Azerbaijani culture as well as art. Leyla created the "Fly to Baku" exhibition of contemporary art from Azerbaijan in the year 2012. The London exhibition was inaugurated and then travelled to the capital cities of Europe including Paris (Berlin), Moscow, Rome, Rome and Vienna.
Leyla Alyeva has launched "Justice for Khojaly" The campaign was launched by Leyla Alyeva to commemorate the anniversary the Shusha occupation. The campaign has been started in more than 30 countries. The aim is to increase the awareness of the world community about the Karabakh conflict and the Khojaly Genocide in particular reaching all over the world via media, Internet and Live events.
Leyla Aliyeva was made the OIC Youth Forum on Intercultural Dialogue's General Coordinator in the year 2008. She was also elected Chairperson of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia on April 18th 2009. AMOR supports Azerbaijani young individuals and students in Russia. Leyla Alyeva was presented with the "Taraggi Award" in July 2011 to acknowledge her contributions towards the growth of the Azerbaijani-Russian relationship. In New York, she was presented with the "Key to Life" award for her work as a humanitarian with children.
On the 25th of May, 2015 Leyla Aliyeva was named UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Goodwill Ambassador.
On October 20, 2015, she was awarded the Pushkin Medal of the Russian Federation.
Leyla Aliyeva is mother of twin boys as well as a daughter.
