Despite his age, James Whitfield Thomson is already a published writer. The former sales executive and U.S. Navy navigator hails from the North Side of Pittsburgh. A member of Andre Dubus's writers workshop, he lives in Natick, Massachusetts. His debut novel, Lies You Wanted to Hear, is an intense psychological thriller about the damage lying can cause. A critic, Jodi Picoult, called his debut novel "compelling and beautifully written."
jameswhitfieldthomson.com and raised in Pittsburgh, Jim grew up in a family on the North Side. He attended Harvard College on a scholarship, and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. In the early 1970s, he earned his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation focused on Raymond Chandler, and he later joined a start-up company as a salesman. Since then, he's published short stories and poetry in literary magazines, and has received a Massachusetts Council on the Arts grant.

A former high school teacher, Whitfield Thomson now teaches at Boston University. He has written numerous essays about his childhood experiences, which are now used as teaching materials. He has published numerous short stories and is also a published author. His most recent book, "Winter in the City," was published in 2014. The author's novel is the fourth installment of the James Whitfield Thomson series. The novel was originally titled "Women Who Love Children," and is based on an incident in his life.
