7 Oldest And Best Minecraft Servers

Minecraft is a simple, easy-to-use game that aims to create and mine resources.

This may seem like the most basic aspect of Minecraft, but mining and crafting regular objects is only a small part of it - the possibilities of what people can create in Minecraft are endless.

In early 2017, Minecraft announced that it had sold over 122 million copies since it was released in 2009, with 55 million players logging on every month.

The simplicity of the game's game mechanics is what has kept the game popular. There are endless possibilities for players to create new things in the game.

The game's first multiplayer mode was available just a few months later. The survival multiplayer mode became popular one year later. Since then, hundreds of Minecraft servers have been created for players to create communities, share their creations, and develop unique game modes.

Some of the most well-known servers today were created almost immediately after survival multiplayer was launched.

7. Hypixel

Year Established: April 2013 Country Of Origin: United States Founder(s). Minecraft username: Hypixel & Rezzus Total Number: Over 7,000,000

Along with Mineplex, Hypixel is one of the most popular Minecraft servers ever created. In 2015, Hypixel hosted the 7,000,000th unique player. HubBubTheNerdy became the 7,000,000th player. Players in the game held a small celebration at that time to mark the milestone.

Hypixel's unique minigames and large world have made it a popular choice for so many years. Each minigame has its own coin, quests, lobby, and other features. The server offers shooters and team survival, normal survival, hardcore survival, arcade and hide and seek games, as well as shooters and team survival.

6. Mineplex

Year Established: January 24, 2013, Country of Origin: United States Founder(s), Minecraft username: Sterling_ and Spou_ Total Number of Unique Users: Unknown, possibly millions; more than 525,000 users are registered on Mineplex forums

Even though Mineplex isn't as old as most of the other servers on this list, it is currently the largest and most popular Minecraft server in the world. Mineplex is so big that it hosts thousands of players at all times of the day and nights. The server is listed on the website as an official Minecraft partnership.

Mineplex sells custom in-game cosmetics that it makes to pay server costs, world and plugin development costs, as well as giveaways. Mineplex's main feature is its "minigames", which are special customized maps with different challenges. Minigame categories are: Classics; Survival; Champions, Clans; Holiday.

5. Crazy Fools UK

Year Established: 2010 Country of Origin: United Kingdom Founder(s): Minecraft username: BRooNiE Total Number of Unique Players: over 5,156 (last count from 2014)

Crazy Fools UK is a relatively unknown server, but it is one the oldest from the United Kingdom. The official website of the server claims that it is the oldest in the UK. However, MinecraftOnline, which is located in England, is only a few weeks older.

Crazy Fools UK, a traditional survival mode server, claims it is "friendly and safe place for you to play without any of these hassles of idiotic admins and griefers." As a little custom touch to the regular game, Crazy Fools UK has its own custom coded "WaterWorld", which features a vast ocean full of islands and pirate ships. Crazy Fools UK has made the server public but requires that anyone who wishes to join it must pass an intelligence test.

4. 2b2t (2builders2tools)

Year Established: December 2010, United States. Founder(s). Minecraft usernames: Georgebush420 & Hausemaster Total Number Of Unique Players: More than 175,000

photo source: Imgur via user ArchQuantam

2builders2tools, also known as 2b2t in Minecraft history, is the oldest and best-known "anarchy server". It is typically considered the second oldest Minecraft server (even though there are a few older servers) overall after MinecraftOnline. It has been running since December 2010, and has never been reset.

2b2t's chaotic nature is what makes it so well-known. The original founders are still believed to own the server, but no one runs it or moderators it. There are no rules in 2b2t. Anyone can play. This has led to many "wars" between different factions of players over the years. There is a queue of 1,000 players waiting to get in to the server.

3. Minr.org

Year established: October 22, 2010, Country of origin: United States Founder(s),: Unknown Total number of unique players: Unknown

Like all of the servers on this list, Minr.org believes it is the oldest still running Minecraft server. Minr.org is an older server that has mazes, challenges, as well parkour maps. Members who have completed the most difficult maps on Minr.org create all of the server challenges.

Although the server is open to anyone, full membership, which includes building rights, into the Minr.org community must be earned by escaping the hardcore maze/parkour system. Minr.org currently offers over 250 challenges. The server also hosts special events, including Ninja Warrior (a limited-time event that is server-wide), and The Amazing Race (which are both based upon the TV shows with similar names).

2. Minecraft Online

Year Established: August 4, 2010. Country of Origin England. Founder(s). Minecraft usernames: SlowRiot, RuneChan. Total Number of Unique Players: 124,579

While there is a lot of debate over which existing Minecraft server is the oldest, most people believe that MinecraftOnline is officially the oldest Minecraft server. Freedonia, the main MinecraftOnline world, was created on the day Minecraft survival multiplayer was open to the public. Freedonia is the longest running world in the game. It was created in 2010 and has never been restored.

Since Freedonia has been running for so long and has always been open to the public, it is filled with numerous towns, cities, and sites. MinecraftOnline administrators ban all attempts to alter any of the Freedonian constructions, in order to preserve all the hard work that its users have done over the years.

1. Nerd.nu

Year Established: June 10, 2009. Country Of Origin: United States. Current Head Administrators: Unknown. Minecraft usernames include cujobear and silversunset.

According to the official wiki page for Nerd.nu, it is one of the oldest Minecraft servers in the world. Just a few days after Minecraft's multiplayer mode was launched, the server went online on June 10, 2009.

Nerd.nu servers are the oldest servers currently in existence, which were created at Reddit's servers for Minecraft.

Today, Nerd.nu hosts three server types: creative and PvE (player against environment). Nerd.nu hosts occasional events on its special events server. The creative server is Nerd.nu's longest running server and is currently on its 32nd revision. Nerd.nu states that its servers "are fair, fast, and friendly" and that new players are always welcomed.

ChanTeo was established in 2010 as a small gerrman Citybuild Server. Since then, it has grown into a huge international Network with more 1500 players. It has been reduced to a small size by the help of Youtube Fan-Servers, and it still runs with no end in sight.
