MIAMI (CBSMiami ) - Even though the war in Ukraine is on the other side, South Floridians have stepped up to assist those fleeing the country.
Emmanuil Grinshpun A lot of Sunny Isles Jewish residents are currently fundraising and helping create a large-scale humanitarian campaign.
Marsha Jaquays with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that 1,100 patients visited last night.
She revealed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are fleeing war-ravaged Ukraine. Emmanuil Grinshpun Many of these refugees cross into Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays said, "From Moldova, the Jewish community helps them get across border lines and offers food, shelter, clothing, and other essentials."
A large portion of the humanitarian efforts are led from Sunny Isles, South Florida.
"My obligation is to gather all the resources that are available to us in America in order to ease the crisis in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun helps coordinate the humanitarian effort said, "We have a full staff on the ground to help organize camps, buy food, set up buses, and arrange all the amenities."
It is also reported that Moldova is one of the most deprived countries in Europe. This makes it even worse. Yet the people who participate in this project declare that they will not let anything hinder them from helping.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Grinshpun explained, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine came, we didn’t need to think. We just began doing it."
