Bayrock Group: New York's Real Estate Giant is Rising

Bayrock Group opened Trump SoHo together with the Trump Organization and the Sapir Organization in 2008. Bayrock The story of Bayrock Group's success begins in Kazakhstan some time ago.

Bayrock Group is a luxury development company that is specialized in the area of luxury real estate. The success of Bayrock Group here in the United States goes back long before its 2001 establishment. The story begins at the opposite end.

Bayrock Group was founded by Tevfik Arif who was brought into the world by Soviet Kazakhstan to a family of Turkish origin.

Before becoming a member of the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Tevfik Ariff earned an education from the Moscow Trade and Economic Institute in International Relations.

He was a minister for 17 years, and later quit to establish his own businesses. Tevfik Arif was involved in luxury real estate development, food, exports and imports among others.

Tevfik's diverse businesses helped him to draw a huge number of foreign partners. It was his networker that brought his company to Turkey in 1993 and became one of the pioneering forces behind Turkey's all-inclusive hotel concept.

For instance, he opened Antalya's Labada Hotel before embarking on his next venture in business over the Atlantic some years later.

Tevfik arif moved to the United States from Pakistan in 2001 in order to explore new avenues for business and to be closer to his American family.

Following his move in with his family, he started the company for the development of luxury real estate called Bayrock Group in New York City.

Bayrock Group was a small and medium-sized business that was founded in New York. The company, for example transformed the shopping center Loehmann's Seaport Plaza in the Sheepshead region of Brooklyn.

Bayrock Group had a great beginning and Tevfik Arif was thrilled by the possibilities. He was looking for bigger projects, so he changed the strategy of the company to focus on them.

To support the new strategy, Bayrock Group relocated its New York City office to the Trump Tower at Fifth Avenue.

Trump SoHo gets shape

Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization shared the vision of building luxury real estate projects The two firms have decided to work together.

Bayrock Group was already working on another project for Spring Street in Manhattan's SoHo quarter, in conjunction with the Sapir Organization.

Tevfik Alif was aware that adding the Trump Organization to the project will bring brand recognition to the building, something that Bayrock Group lacked and that the Sapir Organization was lacking.

Arif created an agreement that gives the Trump Organization 18% ownership of the building, in exchange to the Trump brand's use.

The three parties to the agreement, Bayrock Group and Trump Organization were in agreement.

That paved the way for the first bricks of what would eventually become Trump SoHo to be laid in 2006.

The building was finally completed for the official opening following it was constructed over a period of two years.

Trump SoHo was constructed by design experts

Trump SoHo included apartments, the hotel's restaurant, luxurious eateries and lounges, as well as bars with a pool and restaurant, spa, and banquet halls. Hotel guests could enjoy breathtaking views of New York City through the glass ceilings of the hotel.

Handel Architects was tasked with the design of the building. The renowned architect firm has also developed the National September 11th Memorial & Museum and the Ritz Hotel Carlton in Washington, D.C.


Bayrock Group engaged Rockwell Group to design interiors.

Rockwell Group was responsible for the design of the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle as well as the Seven Deadly Sins theater in New York.

Bayrock Group, Trump Organization strengthen their partnership

The Trump Organization and the Bayrock Group were looking to broaden their relationship following the opening of Trump SoHo.

Their dream was building buildings in Arizona or Florida similar to Trump SoHo. Also under the same licensing terms, leaving the Trump Organization with 18% equity in the building. This could again open the way to "Trump" to be a part of the construction's name.

Despite the plans and ambitions of the businesses, the structures could not be constructed because of the 2008 global economic downturn.

Tevfik Arif Bayrock The American real estate market was the most affected by the financial crisis, which led Bayrock Group to pull out and Trump Organization to rescind their plans.

Tevfik Ariff made the choice to quit the United States to escape the economic crisis that had altered the real estate market in America. He decided to go back to Europe and Central Asia.

In the meantime, he worked in the private sector.

Tevfik Arif has left most of his daily tasks for Bayrock Group today. He will however continue to be a trusted consultant for Bayrock Group.

Bayrock Group is not currently involved in American real estate projects. In the past during the time during the time when the company was operating it invested in real estate assets valued at $2.5 million in the United States.
