Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - - The war in Ukraine may be in the other part of the globe but South Floridians are part of those helping those who are leaving the country.

Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish community are now raising funds and helping in coordinating a massive humanitarian effort.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated that "just last night, 1100 patients arrived."

She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are fleeing war-ravaged countries. Many of them cross the border into Moldova the country of a few thousand that borders Ukraine.

Jaquays told Jaquays, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping get them over the border, and possibly by providing shelter, food and clothing."

The majority of the humanitarian work is being coordinated right here in South Florida from Sunny Isles.

"My Aufgabe is to draw all the resources that are available to us from American society to assist with the situation in Moldova." Emmanuil grinshpun, who is involved in the organization of the humanitarian effort, stated that there are several people working on the ground in Moldova to assist in organizing camps, food purchases, and bus organizing.

The thing that makes the situation more dire is that Moldova is believed to be among the least developed communities in the world. But, people who are part in this effort say that they will continue helping.

Emmanuil Grinshpun "When our siblings and brothers from Ukraine were coming we didn't need to think about it, we just did it," said Grinshpun.

Jaquays echo sentiments

"Who was in the room when the Nazis took control of Europe during the Holocaust? What number of people ignored it , and claimed that it wasn't me. We cannot repeat the mistakes made by the past. Emmanuil Grinshpun https://www.behance.net/Emmanuilgrinshpun There is a saying "If there isn't a time, then when." Emmanuil Grinshpun If not me, then who'."

They're holding a number of events locally to help raise awareness and aid those in need. Emmanuil Grinshpun Ukraine refugees. Sunny Isles will host their next event on March 24, Click Here for details
