Article content Maryland guard Serrel Smith entered the NCAA transfer portal, the university announced Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore is the third player to transfer out of the program this offseason, joining forwards Ricky Lindo Jr. (George Washington) and Joshua Tomaic (San Diego State).

Smith was a regular in 61 games for the Terrapins over the past two years, scoring an average of 2.6 points, 1 rebounds, and 10.0 minutes per contest.
Mark Turgeon, head coaching, said in a team statement that Serrel did everything we asked. He was a great coach and a great teammate, which helped us to the Big Ten Championship. We wish him the best.

Article content Smith, a former three -star recruit from St. Petersburg in Florida, will have to sitout next season, unless the NCAA waives him. He has two years remaining in his eligibility.
"I want to thank Maryland and Coach Turgeon for these past two years - they have been nothing but amazing," Smith Jr. said in the release. "My time at Maryland was filled full of memories and relationships that will be cherished forever!" After careful consideration, i have decided to register my name in NCAA transfer portal and explore my options.
Maryland finished 24-7 and shared the Big Ten regular-season title with Michigan State and Wisconsin at 14-6 in 2019-20.
