Multi-playing is not possible without the latest version of the game (0.12.1). It costs $6.99 USD.
Playing Minecraft: Pocket Edition locally
Local play means you and up to five friends can play in the same world. However, you must be connected to the same Wi Fi connection. Toggle the "Local Server Multiplayer” switch in your game settings.
First, choose which world you want to play and then load the game on that person’s device. This device will now act as the host.
To allow your friends to join, tap "play" and choose the new world (highlighted blue) that appears at the top.
That's it; they're in! Get ready to explore, dig, create, and chase creepers-whatever that is!
Connect to Minecraft Pocket Edition gaming servers
Servers are a great option if you want to play with multiple players on different Wi-Fi connections.
Servers are-more often than not-permanently online worlds that players from around the globe have created and who have graciously opened to other players.
Many of these servers require registration, while others are open to everyone. To find a server, try MinecraftPocket-Servers or Minecraft Pocket Edition Servers and browse for a world that you'd like to join.
