Good morning, everyone. Today I'd like to discuss the themes and issues raised in the three texts I've read. A novel called Destroying Avalon by Kate McCaffrey, a documentary movie The Cyber Bully by Ben Chanan and a movie Cyber Bully by Charles Biname. The stories are about teeangers being bullied online and the impacts of it. Which brings us to the difficulties of family and friends, dealing with fake accounts that distribute false and personal information, and depression. In Destroying Avalon, Avalon Maloney was a joyful girl, but after moving to Perth from Grace Point, she became depressed because she was bullied at school and on the internet. She distanced herself from her family in order to keep track of the entries regarding to her. Like Taylor Hillridge, she intends to skip school because she felt ashamed and was terrified of being teased by her peers. She was curious about what people were saying about her. She tried to put an end to the rumour that she and a guy named James slept together, but people didn't believe her and ganged up on her. When the situation became too much for her, she attempted to overdose herself, but Samantha arrived in time and prevented her. Similarly, in the drama documentary, Casey Jacob was forced to overdose on anti-anxiety pills by a hacker if she didn't want him to share naked images of her and Maegan. This was unfair to Casey because she was not the only person engaged in Jennifer Li's death, who committed suicide as a result of Casey's troll reposted video of Jennifer Li singing. There are certain similarities throughout the three scenarios, such as being called nasty names and having problems with family members. Casey and Avalon didn't want their parents to know they were experiencing issues with the social at first. Compared to the other two characters, Taylor told her mother about it, and her mother took steps to assist her. The cyberbullying campaigns began as a result of their friends' jealously; the situation could have been avoided if they had just ignored the bad comments. So, what should we do when we are the victim of cyberbullying? The first and most critical step is to not respond to any emails and messages, and save it as evidence. You must seek for help from the adults before any bad consequences occur. Or, turn off devices as Casey did at the end of the film. Overall, cyberbullying is a serious problem with far-reaching consequences. This can have an impact on people's mental health, disempower individuals, and even lead to their deaths. Take quick action against cyberharassment. So, put an end to cyberbullying and say no to cyberbullying.
Thank You!
