Bring tablets, laptops or, sometimes, smartphones with video content to take camping with the children.

It's something I've learned by trial and error. My mom has been on my back all weeklong, telling me to make this list and remember that. My excitement for the first camping trip I took with my children, my grandkids was the only thing I shared with her. She was all about my preparations, offering me advice and guidance on every situation. I don’t mind my mom speaking. I don't listen to her talk causes me to feel uncomfortable. And that was a big error, as I've found out the following day... or two..

We left in our car and were going to drive it all the way to the campsite. To recreate the experience my father had back in the day I decided to go to an area that was remote and, as it turned to be later on, was no longer in service. This meant that our smartphones were not available, and we were completely alone with no other campers. I'm sorry. I was expecting an amazing time off working.. What did you do? We were in a solitary state, had no internet, none of the bars and no money. I had brought my laptop along with some online games. But it was impossible to take it out of the bags. I had a beautiful backdrop I could use to entertain my children. They would check their emails, read their texts, keep up with school, etc. It was too for me, so I packed everything up to go. My kids sound almost like little pigs enjoying delicious food once we were out of the internet-free zone. I really do love my kids. This was embarrassing. They laughed and gasped when their phones started ringing and announcing the arrival of messages from text.

Since then, my preparations have improved and I try to avoid getting stuck in an area that doesn't have internet access. We took a long boat trip towards our destination. This time, I needed to bring my best friends, two tablets and a laptop. The laptop had every music video and songs I downloaded from Hulu, Netflix, and other apps. I've got over 600 hours worth of material that includes complete episodes from the South Park, Friends, Will & Grace seasons, as well as additional episodes.

There are tons of videos children will love. I downloaded music videos from Youtube and converted them to MP3 or mp4 formats to watch and listen. With this web app I was able download videos to my laptop. Then I can view them offline with just electricity (if required). I DVR a variety of TV Shows, Movies as well as Online Lectures. These videos I save in MP4 on my laptop. Later I just play them using VLC, KMP, or almost any other video format that supports 4K.


4k is another thing that I insist on. Have you watched this? Video is clear, really amazing. I highly recommend. Televisions that support 4K image have amazing software in them that processes that picture and improves it, upscales it. The old footage is better with the latest TV, even that it's not that good to begin with, just the kind of blocky squarish type recording. However, it turns into a smooth and elegant contemporary video flows. Everyone will be thrilled!
