Minecraft is a popular sandbox indie game. It was first created by Markus "Notch", an Swedish programmer, and later published by Mojang. It is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to defend against nocturnal beasts. However, as the game evolved, players collaborated to create incredible, imaginative things.

After we have installed all prerequisites, it is time to install Minecraft server. We create a directory to keep Minecraft files.
Once the file is downloaded, it must be run. It will be run inside screen so that it runs in the background. To create the screen and then start the Minecraft server we need to execute:
We will be able to see the status and output, as well a message indicating that it is "done". We can easily exit the screen and re-attach to it any time. To exit the screen, press CTRL+A simultaneously and then click on the "d" key.
To reattach the screen, first list all screens and then attach to the one with the ID.
You can edit the main configuration file which will be located in ~/minecraft/server.properties and change all the settings from there. You're now all set and the Minecraft server is installed. Invite all your friends and have fun.
