Fortnite Creative can be an effective tool for learning in much the same way that Minecraft can be. Even though it may seem odd to some, Minecraft's Education edition is quite well-known. Fortnite Creative also offers courses to help you use both.
The Epic blog posted the course recently and it is specifically designed to help "secondary educators familiarize with Minecraft how Fortnite Creative can be used in the classroom." It consists of 11 videos and demonstrates a variety of features and mechanics of Fortnite Creative to show users how they can use it for teaching.
The blog post itself also highlights what are likely the two biggest differences between the game when it comes to building. As you may know, Minecraft is a game where you have to put things together brick-by-brick. Fortnite however, has ready-to-use assets. Fortnite is theoretically quicker to build, but it lacks some of the complexity provided by the coding elements.
Minecraft can be used to teach programming logic, due to the complexity of Redstone and command blocks. Fortnite does not offer the same level of depth, but it does allow for the same freedom using different devices and mechanics. Item Placer devices, such as the one above, allow players to quickly see how they affect the world while they are being used. It provides a better feedback loop that is more immediate, which can be very helpful when teaching kids.
