Minecraft: Java Vs. Bedrock - Which Edition Are You Better?

The evolution of Minecraft, a game that has become one of the highest-selling games of all-time, is truly impressive. The original game was a Java-based game that could only have been played on a PC. The game can now be played on many different consoles and beyond its Java code.

The 2017 Bedrock edition of Minecraft was launched to give players a completely different experience with the game. It was built entirely using a completely different programming language. This is not the only difference between the editions. Both offer different reasons to play their versions.

10 Bedrock: Cross Platform Play Is Now Available

Bedrock fundamentally changed Minecraft forever upon its release, as it became possible for players to begin playing the open-world sandbox with each other across platforms. If you have the Bedrock edition on Windows 10, you can reach out to a friend with the game on Xbox or PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or even your mobile device. These multiplayer worlds operate the same as regular games so there is no need to water down the game. However, cross-platform multiplayer will require players creating a Microsoft account.

9 Java: Access More Servers

Since the Java edition has been around years before its counterpart, the Minecraft community has more of an established footprint with the older version. Due to the large number of public servers available, the Java edition offers more worlds. Some players have made the leap from Java into Bedrock. But simply put, it is much easier as of this time for players to find a server that they would enjoy in the Java edition of the game.

8 Bedrock: Multiplayer Is Easier To Set Up

Java has improved over the years with how private multiplayer servers work, but simply put, life is much easier for those on Bedrock when it comes to setting up a hang-out with friends. For starters, players can just join off each other's games if they are friends with each other on their Microsoft accounts.

Split-screen multiplayer can also be provided on consoles. This allows players to play locally. Java requires that Java players set up a server via port-forwarding, purchasing realm servers, or through the LAN. Two copies of Minecraft must be used in each case.

7 Java: There are two crucial modes

There are many ways to play Minecraft. At a baseline, players who have either version can choose to deal with the elements in survival mode or enjoy building in creative mode. A second mode, adventure, is available for map makers who don't want their work to be destroyed by players. There are two modes available that are only for Java. One is a survival mode, where players are forced to survive at the most difficult difficulty level with only one life. There's also spectator mode, which allows players to have a wide view of their world as they can fly through blocks and look through the eyes of specific entities.

6 Bedrock: Parents Have More Control

Over the years Minecraft's audience has been growing in number. The game doesn't have any parental controls over time, which means that kids of all ages can play Minecraft on the same server as adults. Java Edition isn't designed to limit the freedom of parents. Bedrock provides at least some outlet. Parents who have set up their child's Microsoft Account can go to the settings of Xbox Live to prevent their child from accessing multiplayer if they are concerned about the dangers.

5 Java: More World Generation Options

Similar to the different game modes, Java edition has the upper hand when it comes to the amount of world generation options. Both versions allow players to create a normal world or super flat world. There are a few Java-exclusive types of world. The amplified world allows players to generate terrain as high as the world's height limit. The "Large Biomes” type allows players to choose one biome for their world. JSON can even be used to create customizable worlds.

4 Bedrock: A Smoother Experience Playing

Although Minecraft on Java edition is a game that moves far away from hyperrealistic graphics, it still has lag spike problems even with the most powerful computers. Bedrock edition has been able to avoid this issue due to the fact that it is built entirely with a different programming language.

Simply put, the engine it runs off of is independent from the game. Souldevteam Java edition does not have this structure and must rely on all its parts to function properly, without any optimizations.

3 Java: Experiencing Mods Come Easier

Mods are always a major part of the Minecraft experience, with some mods looking to aesthetically enhance the game and some looking to add more content. While Bedrock edition has been the version with the modding API, Java continues to be the best outlet to enjoy mods in Minecraft. Bedrock editions can be purchased in the Minecraft Marketplace. Java editions are free to install mods. There are many mods that players can use, and Bedrock is only restricted to the ones being sold.

2 Bedrock - Combat is More Straight Forward

For those who are serious Minecraft fans, they will recall how combat in the Java Edition changed when 1.9 was released. Players had to adjust to fighting monsters and other players due to the introduction of Cooldowns between hits and Hotbar Item Switches. This was a huge frustration in the community, but the good news is that the Bedrock Edition doesn't have this feature and still has the old combat system. PVP-loving users could wait for Mojang Java's combat issues to be fixed or switch versions.

1 Java: Customization through The Roof

The Minecraft Marketplace in Bedrock has something very nice. There are theme packs available for players to test out skins and textures. These items are not expensive, but Java edition allows players to get more for free. Java edition offers more creativity, as players can search the internet for texture packs and skins. Even better, players can create their own skins and texture packs. The options are pretty limitless.
