I tried several tutorials, but none of them worked. I do everything correctly, but then i get this:
The file '/home/mike/Downloads/minecraft.jar' is not marked as executable. This file may not be safe to run if it was downloaded or copied from an unknown source. The executable bit provides more information.
I tried to run minecraft.jar with Sun Java runtime 6, but it didn't work. MINECRAFT SERVERS Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your message is the most important part.
"The file '/home/mike/Downloads/minecraft.jar' is not marked as executable. It may be unsafe to run if this file was downloaded from an untrusted source. Read more about the executable bit.

This will make it realizable. Be sure to read the 2nd part of the message: make sure you got it from a trusted source.
GUI
You can also view the file in Nautilus. To do this, click on it, open Properties, then the Permissions tab. Tick the box that says "Allowed".
Execute: Allow executing file as a program.

Right click the minecraft.jar hit properties then do execute file as a program. This worked for me and others. Most likely this should get your minecraft to work.
