Omaha Poker - Beginners Guide
OThere's another round of betting starting from the player on the dealer's left. The dealer burns a card a keeps the final card on table called the river. You now get a chance to use any of the five table cards or two pocket cards to form a five card poker hand.

The dealer should give five playing cards to each player. The rule for distributing cards is to place them from left to right. First, each player should receive one of the cards. The dealer should then start the second round, to distribute the second card.

The flop is the next stage of the game. The dealer begins by burning one card. This means he deals it to the discard pile. He then deals three cards face up on the table. These three cards are the flop.

This game is almost identical to 7-card stud except for a few technicalities. The betting sequence remains the same. The betting card poker round begins with whichever card is the highest. The main difference between the two games is that in hi lo, the players with both the highest or lowest hands will split their pot. This happens only if there is a sufficiently low hand at the table. In order for a hand to qualify for the "lo" it must contain 5 cards of Eight or lower, with no pairs. If there are no hands of such nature, then the pot is won by the player who has the best hand. Having a general grip on stud poker rules will help you develop quickly with this version.

At the start of each game of Omaha poker, the player to the left of the dealer commences with the small blind. The second player then pays the big blind. Blinds are simply mandatory bets that begin the Omaha poker pot. The responsibility of paying the blinds shifts clockwise around the poker table so that all players will contribute to the poker game.

The main difference with Omaha and Texas Holdem is that Omaha poker requires you to deal four cards at the start of each game, rather than just two. However you are only permitted to use two of the four cards plus any three of the five community cards.

In the next round, known as the flop, three cards are dealt face up. The dealer is the player to your left. The next step is a betting round.
