Pastor Chris Oyakhilome started his education at Edo College. Then he was granted a scholarship to go to Bendel State University, now Ambrose Ali University. There he earned an BSc. in Architecture and an honorary Doctor of Science. He also holds awarded an honorary doctorate in divinity from Benson Idahosa University. Ambrose Ali University was where he discovered his calling to serve the Lord and to be a minister.

When he was still at university, the Man of God established what would later become one of the largest churches around the world. He began an unassuming prayer group dubbed "Youth for Christ" which would later grow into the most popular organisation of its type on campus.
