How To Play Multiplayer Minecraft PC

Here are the basics to playing Minecraft in multiplayer on your Windows PC, Java or Bedrock editions.



1. Java Edition



There are two options for multiplayer Minecraft Java Edition: over LAN or online. In both cases, everyone must have the same Minecraft version. You might need to downgrade or update your Minecraft version.



How to Play Java Edition LAN Multiplayer



You must make your network available to other players in order to play over LAN. You can create a LAN network over a Wi-Fi network. Alternativly, you can connect all devices with Ethernet cables to an internet router.



1. Launch the game and click Single Player. 2. Create a new universe or open an existing world. 3. Once in game, press Esc to bring up the menu, and click Open to LAN.


1. Select a game environment for all players in the LAN party. You can set the game mode and decide if cheats are allowed. By default, Game Mode is set to survival.


2. Click Start LAN World.


How to Join a LAN Game



1. Start your Minecraft LAN server or have someone else in your LAN do it.


2. Start the game and click Multiplayer. Minecraft scans the LAN to find available worlds.


3. Select the server from the list and click Join Server.

How to Play Java Edition Online Multiplayer



Online gaming is possible by joining a public server or hosting your own server.



How to start a server



You can either set up a Minecraft server on your PC, or rent a third-party Minecraft server. To play, you don’t need an Xbox Live subscription. If you're self-hosting, the basic procedure is fairly simple.



1. Download the server.jar.


2. Accept the EULA.


3. Configure the server with command-line options.


4. Run server.jar.


How to join a Server



This example will be run on the Mineplex server.



1. Launch the game, and click Multi Player.


2. Click Add Server.


3. Type Mineplex US in The Server Name field. Or choose your own name.


4. In the Server Address field, type us.mineplex.com


1. Click Done.


2. Select the newly added server from the server listing and click Join Server.

2. Bedrock Edition



You have two options to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition in multiplayer. One is on your LAN (local network), and the other is online. In both cases, everyone must have the same version.

You must allow other players to connect to your network in order for you to play over it. All that is required is that all players connect via the same router or Wi Fi network.



How to Start a LAN Game



1. Start the game, and then press Play.


2. Create or edit the world by pressing the pen button.


3. Go to the Multiplayer menu, and ensure Visible to LAN Player is on.

2. Choose the LAN game that you would like to join.


How to Play Bedrock Edition Online Multiplayer



Microsoft partnered with a number of third-party providers in order to set up official Bedrock Edition servers.



The Bedrock Edition uses Xbox's account system to multiplayer so you will need a Gamertag in order to play on these servers. A Gamertag is available by signing up to a Microsoft Account or by using an existing Xbox Live Account.

You can also add your third-party server or servers that have been hosted by you.



1. Go to the servers tab.


2. Click Add Server.


3. Enter server name, address, port.

How to Play Multiplayer Minecraft with a Child Account



A child account may have limitations when it comes to playing multiplayer Minecraft. First, ensure the child account has an Xbox Live membership. To remove the default multiplayer restrictions, you will need to use parental control.



1. Log in to your Xbox account settings with your Microsoft account.


2. Select the profile of your child.


3. Navigate to Windows 10 Online/Xbox One tab.


4. Fake Root Select Allow for the following entries:


Join multiplayer games.


Clubs can be formed and joined.

1. Navigate to the Privacy tab.


2. Select Everybody for the following entry:


Other people can communicate via voice, text, and invites.
