How To Play Multiplayer Minecraft

Minecraft has been a fan-favorite for many years. The game has been updated many times to make it even more enjoyable for its fans. If you are new to Minecraft, the idea of playing solo for hours may seem daunting. Minecraft's singleplayer aspect of building is a great place to spend time and get creative juices flowing. However, most users will have infinitely more fun playing the game with their friends offline or online.

Don't worry if you don't know where to start with Minecraft multiplayer. This article will walk you through the process of all Minecraft editions.

How to play Multiplayer Minecraft

There are many ways you can play Minecraft with friends or complete strangers. A smaller group might choose to play on a local network using a LAN connection that requires little technical knowledge. Advanced users can access thousands of servers or create their very own. Each server offers more freedom and has different rules and cheats. The Realms edition is completely online, with some caveats. The special education edition was created with online play in mind.

How Do You Play Multiplayer in Minecraft in the Same House?

Minecraft enthusiasts who want to play in the same place often use a LAN network. For example, you can create a LAN network using your home Wi-Fi or connect all devices to the router via Ethernet cables. Here's how to start up a LAN world on Minecraft:

1. Open Minecraft on your PC or console, and go into one of your singleplayer worlds.

2. To return to the game menu, press Escape.

3. Press Open to LAN. Choose whether cheats will be enabled or disabled and which game modes you would like to offer other players.

4. Select Start LAN world.

How can I play on a Local Area Network, (LAN)?

Other players can join this LAN-world from their devices now:

1. Select Multiplayer from your main menu.

2. The game will scan your LAN for an ongoing universe.

3. If the LAN World has been created, the game will display LAN World below.

4. Double-click to join or press on the server name and then click Join Server.

How can I use splitscreen in Minecraft?

Split-screen can be enabled to allow up to three friends to play Minecraft together on the console. You can set up a game by connecting additional controllers to your console.

1. Select Play Game. Create a new world or load a previous one.

2. Check the Online game setting.

3. Once the first player has entered the world, all other players can join the game by pressing START on their controllers.

If you want to expand your split-screen experience to up to eight people, you'll need an additional console and enable online play. These steps are the same as for single-console play. However, you will need to enable Online Game before you can start.

How to Play Multiplayer Online in Minecraft

PC and console users who wish to play online can access a wide range of servers, or create their own private server for a select group of friends. There are benefits and drawbacks to both. Servers need a strong infrastructure and an internet connection to function. A server's host PC may not be capable of running it. You must, however, follow the rules and regulations of public servers.

Online hosting services make it easy to set up a server. If you want to learn how to build your Minecraft server from scratch, the documentation required to do so is available here. Warning: The instructions are publicly edited and updated to the most recent version of Minecraft. They may not run properly on your computer configuration.

Online server hosting platforms can simplify the process for those who don’t have the technical skills or the time. Apex Minecraft Hosting offers an example.

1. Visit their website.

2. Select the plan that interests you. The amount of players in your friend groups will determine the RAM needed for hosting. The platform also offers some rough recommendations. For example, ten players using several mods would generally need 2 GB of RAM.

3. After ordering the server, you'll need to enter your information, including email address.

4. The platform techs will construct the server for you. They will send you an e-mail with the required information to log in to view the server's IP.

5. This IP allows you and your friends to join the game.

There are also publicly available servers that users can join online. You can find the one you like and copy the IP address.

Once the server setup is complete (whether it was done by you or a hosting service), or you have found an internet server to join, copy and paste the server IP address. Next, follow these steps.

1. Open Minecraft

2. Select Multiplayer. Select Servers if Minecraft Bedrock is your preferred method.

3. Click on Add Server to the bottom.

4. Enter a name you know and then copy or paste the IP address into Server Address. You can fill in the port number that was created or received.

5. For Bedrock Edition: select Save and then press Join near the bottom to start playing on the server.

Java Edition: Press Done. Next, select the server you wish to join from the multiplayer list.

How to play Multiplayer in Minecraft Dungeons

If you're playing Minecraft Dungeons, the steps to playing with friends are similar to joining a LAN network. Here are the steps to join a LAN network for multiplayer.

1. Connect additional controllers.

2. The primary player needs to start a local game by pressing A.

3. To connect to the game, other players must press the appropriate button (usually L3) on their controller.

And here are the steps to join an online game on Minecraft Dungeons:

1. Complete the tutorial.

2. While playing Minecraft Dungeons you can press A to open the menu and to access the online multiplayer settings.

3. You will need to link your Microsoft account with your console. You'll need another device to access the URL shown, like a PC or a phone. Follow the prompts displayed on the console screen. Enter the code that was provided by the game.

4. Once you've connected your accounts, you can see a list your friends on the screen. One player will be the host, while the others can join them by pressing Join next to the host's name to play together.

How to Play Multiplayer with Minecraft Education Edition

The Minecraft Education Edition offers students the opportunity to enhance their teamwork and creativity in offline and on-line play. This allows users to play Minecraft EE online through their Office 365 accounts. Here's what to do:

1. Forums The host must create a game world and note the IP address. Press Play, and then select New World. Select the game options you wish to play, then choose Host.

2. You can view your IP and port by opening a new Minecraft EE multiplayer-game and pressing Escape.

3. If you are looking to have multiple sessions from the same place, switching to a static ip address will provide you with the best results.

4. Turn on port forwarding. Log in to your router with your browser and then click Port Forwarding. Enter the IP address indicated on the world. Use 19132 as the start port and 19133 for the end port. This will be required for both TCP protocols and UDP protocols.

5. Note the Join code in the game, made from four pictures, again from the game menu. You can share the join code with other players.

6. Multiplayer is now available on Minecraft EE. After entering the join code, other players can join a world.

This guide will show you how to access more settings.

What's the Difference Between Bedrock and Java Editions?

When you're setting up a game or choosing which version of Minecraft to play, picking the correct Minecraft edition is vital. There are two main Minecraft editions for multiplayer: Java edition and Bedrock edition.

The only edition that console users can access is the Bedrock edition (PS4, Xbox, Switch). It doesn't support modding, and you'll often need to pay to gain access to more mods. However, it's the only way to connect players across different consoles and a PC.

PC users have the option of choosing between the two. If all your friends use a PC, we'd recommend the Java version. It doesn't limit mods, can enable hardcore mode for no-respawn gameplay, and is updated first with more developmental features.

How Do You Play Minecraft Multiplayer for Free?

Playing with friends is only possible if you set up your own server. This may require more work and you will need the right tools to do it correctly. Alternatively, you can try finding free server hosts online, although finding a trusted host might be more challenging than it looks.

Minecraft with Friends

While playing Minecraft by yourself can be a great way to pass the time while you're at it, playing with friends can bring out the best and worst of your group and force you to think outside the box. Now you are familiar with all the multiplayer Minecraft options.

Set up your server if you are tech-savvy. This is a great way for you to get online and improve your tech knowledge.
