As I know AION is one of the most advanced corporations in their specialized field. It's very unfortunate to find out that there's some dirty politic played behind and a struggle of power within the corporation.
The one to be blamed is of course, Stephen. Without his greediness and desire over James' CEO throne, all this mess wouldn't be happened.
But everything happened for a reason, and this kind of power grabbing actions could be prevented. We all know that phenomena of passing down business to the children or close relatives is a common thing in society. It doesn't violate the rule, since it's the headman right to choose who's the most competent person that could continue leading the business. I don't know how the Father of Cooper Twins finally decided to give his CEO position to James, but if it caused such a catastrophic accident for the company and even the world like what has happened before, I believe there was something missing in his consideration.
In my opinion, the devolution of the authority should be discussed before with all the candidates, in this case, the children. The previous leader should know what actually their children wants and take them as his consideration, wether he should give his legacy to children A, B, or to someone else outside the family relatives.
We hear stories of fighting siblings and poor communication all too frequently. It would be lovely to believe that only positive emotions, such as love and respect, inspire people to give their all to the company's future. Resentment, jealousy, greed, and impressions of favoritism are some negative emotions that can unexpectedly influence a lot of decisions about the direction of the company.
