Free Linux Server Monitoring And APM Solutions For SysAdmins

Today's software applications demand that developers, testers, SysAdmins and SysAdmins work together (DevSecOps), more seamlessly than ever. Badly configured services or a single line of code can cause slowdowns that can be crippling for end-users. This is where infrastructure and application monitoring comes in.

Monitoring critical performance metrics on Linux operating systems is a great way for SysAdmins to keep track of their mail servers, web/application servers, and database servers. It includes server OS health analysis and resources usage (disks i/o memory, swap, CPU), network tests, Firewall/Security. Also, MySQL performance and HTTP servers (Apache or Nginx). ), PHP, OpCache (PHP-FPM).

Almost two years ago, I started maintaining a list of Top 100 Server Monitoring & Application Monitoring (APM) solutions. The list contains BOTH free and paid Linux Server Monitoring and APM solutions. However, a growing list of solutions offer free accounts or are entirely free and open-source. Also, check out previous articles on observation.

Datadog: Modern monitoring and analytics

Datadog is an infrastructure management service ideal for IT shops that can fully leverage its automation, application programming interface (API), and data analysis capabilities. Datadog also provides many integrations (350+), dashboards as well as alerts that smaller businesses will appreciate. Free accounts include core collection and visualization, discussion group support, 1-day metric retention, up to 5 hosts.

Nginx amplify: Linux Server Monitoring + MySQL Free

Nginx Amplify currently is free, but they are planning to introduce pricing. Nginx Amplify provides a SaaS-based monitoring solution for the Nginx HTTP servers. NGINX amplify can monitor performance, track infrastructure assets and improve server configuration through analysis. Nginx Amplify also monitors the underlying OS, application servers (like PHP-FPM), databases (MySQL), and other components. The control panel alerts you of both performance and security-related issues. It has been my tool of choice for nearly two years to monitor Nginx performance and full-page caching via fastcgi_cache. Enjoy it while it is completely free!

Netdata: Manage your servers. Simple. Effective. Free

See what's happening on your systems and applications, with interactive web dashboards and performance/health alarms. Netdata comes with MySQL, Memcached and Redis support. There are many integrations (modules or plugins) available, all of which are free and Open Source.

Munin is a free and open-source Linux monitoring server.

Munin is a system monitoring, network monitoring and infrastructure monitoring software application. This is a self-hosted solution for monitoring your Linux server, network and many other applications/services. Open-source and free.
