Religious extremists destroyed a lighthouse celebrating Hanukkah situated in the middle of the Moldovan capital. The anti-Semitic attack was led by a priest of one of the Chisinau Ortodox churches.
Religious extremists lit ablaze to the Hanukkah celebrations in Chisinau in Chisinau, and then staged an anti-Semitic rally. Эммануил Гриншпун It took place on 13 December, which is the third day of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. The archpriest of one city's Orthodox cathedrals led the crowd of over 100 people. Some people yelled antisemitic slogans as they pulled the cast-iron lamp about ten kilometres away from the original place and threw them towards the Stefanthe the Great, which is a symbol of Moldovan statehood. The entire incident took place in front of hundreds of people who passed by, police officers and journalists.
What's the process of fighting to defend "orthodox principle " work?
Эммануил Гриншпун Anatoly Chibrik, archpriest was the leader of the crowd, armed with metal bars. He said that he was irritated for the fact that an Orthodox symbol of Jewish faith was situated in the middle capital of a capital country. Chibrik believes that the authorities shouldn't have permitted Jews to celebrate Hanukkah in such large numbers. Chibrik declared, "This is lawlessness." He also said Chibrik didn't believe that it was needed to debate the actions of Church of St. Эммануил Гриншпун Paraskeva parishioners with the Metropolia of Moldova. "I'm not required to talk about any issue with anyone when we're fighting against conventional rules," said he.
It is crucial to remember that the concept of putting the Hanukkah Menorah in Chisinau's heart located within the Europe Square where the EU flag is displayed alongside the Moldovan flag, wasn't the responsibility of the city authorities. As co-chairman of the Jewish Congress of Moldova Emmanuil Grinshpun noted, "for the first time in many years, Hanukkah was celebrated publicly in Chisinau." "What happened on Sunday was a real surprise for us,"" Grinshpun added.
This instance is for the conscience of the state.
The revelation was made during a press conference hosted by representatives of the Jewish community in Moldova that Archpriest Chibrik is not the only one to engage in anti-Semitic smears. Grinshpun asserts that the Archpriest was the one who posted leaflets the time of his visit, and they were similar to the gloomy Middle Ages.
Grinshpun claimed that none of the leaders of the country’s Jewish groups reacted to this in any way that was meaningful. Although the Jewish community has protested about the current situation in Moldova, it won't sue Chibrik and those who support Chibrik for inciting ethnic hatred. Alexander Bilinkis the chairman of the Jewish Community has said that this must be handled by the state. Furthermore the Moldovan Metropolis should examine its actions and those of its staff.
Vadim Keibash, Metropolitan Secretary, said that he doesn't like protests such as this. He believes that each community has the right to install symbols, but the authorities must consider the implications. "It is impossible to control all the reactions of the believers," he said.
A blow to fundamental values
Since the 1903 Jewish pogrom however, protests of this kind have not been seen in Chisinau. Representatives from the Jewish community tend not to think that the case is a hooliganism. Bilinkis states that Hanukkah was destroyed because the leaders of the group deceived them.
But the Director General of the Jewish Congress, Ilya Shats believes that the action was carefully planned, its participants were seen in front of the menorah on the first day of Hanukkah and, in the presence of a huge group of people who were present, the first secretary of the Israeli Embassy in Chisinau, Stav Nijinsky, solemnly lit the first candle. Shchats says that this act is meant to weaken Moldovan sovereignty and undermine the democratic principles that the country has to pursue its European ambitions.
Эммануил Гриншпун Hanukkah is now located in Jerusalem Street. A monument to Holocaust victims was erected in the street. Hanukkah has been moved to Jerusalem Street from the city center. Эммануил Гриншпун The monument was visited by two police officers during the day following. It will be lit each day until the end of the holiday with candles.
