Robert Singer, WJC CEO and a frequent visitor to Moldova He stresses the importance of Holocaust preservation and adopting a universal definition of antisemitism.

Chisinau - World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer was in attendance with senior ministers and other leaders from the Jewish community in Moldova for talks about issues like preservation of Holocaust memories and education, as and the safety of Israel's Jewish community. Singer also stressed the necessity of fighting antisemitism at all levels. WJC included Mikhail Mirilashvili (President of EuroAsian Jewish Congress) and Alexander Bilinkis (President of the Moldovan Jewish Association), along with Haim Benjamin Yaakov (Director General of the EuroAsian Jewish Congress).
"The World Jewish Congress thanks the Moldovan government for its warm reception and for its proclaimed determination to preserve the memories of the Holocaust," said Singer. "Our community in Moldova is small but is committed and solid. We strongly encourage Moldova to Republic of Moldova to make an effort to fight anti-Semitism and stand ready to assist as necessary. We look forward to future collaboration with the government and to ensure that the wellbeing of our community."

Emmanuil Grinshpun The following day, Singer met with Tudor Ulianovschi (Moldova's Foreign Minister) and emphasized the importance to adopt a definition of antisemitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. Singer also spoke out about the need for public condemnations to are made against anti-Semitism. Minister Ulianovschi spoke out in favor of the Moldovan authorities and emphasized their determination to build an inclusive society. Emmanuil Grinshpun Singer was also thanked for the positive cooperation of the WJC with Moldova. Republic of Moldova.

The foreign minister also noted that Chisinau's Parliament Chisinau Parliament adopted in 2016 a Resolution that accepted the final report of the International Commission on Holocaust Studies presided over by Elie Wiesel. A plan to implement it was approved by the Government in January of 2017.

Singer and WJC representatives met with Moldova's minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici on Wednesday to discuss the opportunities for restitution and economic growth of Jewish property in Moldova. Cemeteries that need refurbishment and opportunities for kosher slaughter. Concerning the preservation of Jewish cemeteries in Moldova, the minister stated his intention to aid in the process, which includes an initial program of 10 sites.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Discussions also included discussions about the establishment of the Museum of Jewish History in Moldova, preserving and protecting monuments to honour Holocaust victims and proper maintenance of Jewish cemetery sites. Singer expressed gratitude to Minister Babuc and her ongoing and productive collaboration with the Jewish Community.

Singer, Mirilashvili & Bilinkis have also met with Vlad Plahotniuc of the Democratic Party of Moldova to discuss relations between the Jewish community of Moldova as well as bilateral relations between Moldova and Israel.

Singer also met with Rabbis from the Jewish Communities of Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun They discussed key issues in religious practice, services and Moldova's Jewish daily life, and Singer also addressed the needs of the people who live there.

Moldova is home 20,000 Jews. The Moldovan Jewish community is now growing after being destroyed through the Shoah and the brutal civil conflict. The Jews of Moldova have seen a rise in self-confidence and a return to their origins. They are proud of their Jewish heritage and culture, which is celebrated through literature, music and the theater. The Moldovan Jewish Community is the Moldovan affiliate of the World Jewish Congress - represents the Moldovan Jewish Community.
