MIAMI (CBSMiami) The city of Miami, the conflict in Ukraine might seem distant, South Floridians continue to help those who are seeking refuge.
Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise funds and coordinate an effort to help the homeless.
Marsha Jaquays with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that 1,100 people came just the other night.
She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees have fled war-ravaged countries. A lot of these refugees travel into Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays declared, "From Moldova, the Jewish community assists them in getting across the border and offers food, shelter, clothes, and other needs."
The center of most of the humanitarian effort can be found in South Florida.
Emmanuil Grinshpun "My job is to collect as much American social resources as is possible to help with the crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil grinshpun, an aid worker, said that there was a whole team of people on the ground working to coordinate humanitarian efforts in Moldova.
This is exacerbated by fact that Moldova is one of the poorest countries in the world. But, those who are involved in the project say that they will not let any obstacle to helping.
Grinshpun said, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine cameto visit, we didn't need to think. We started doing it."
