Pokémon Breeding Guide:
Introduction: This shall not cover everything in breeding, nor EV and IV. But you should understand it neatly.
Chapter 1, Breeding
The species, the species of The Pokémon is determined by the species of the FEMALE pokemon.
Breeding moves, breeding moves are moves that can be passed down from the MALE Pokémon down to the child pokemon.
Personality, there’s a chance that the child will take their personality from one of the parents or just have it own.
Chapter 2, egg groups
Some Pokémons like Kangashkan are only FEMALE so they don’t have a MALE counterpart. That’s when egg groups come in. For example, 2 different Pokémon from the DRAGON egg group can breed if they are both the opposite genders for each other. Egg groups are not determined by TYPE but by The Pokémon’s environment and natural place of reproduction and living. There are alot of egg groups, for example, field, dragon, water 1 water 2, monster, etc...
Chapter 3, EV
When you Faint certain pokemons you gain something called something called EFFORT values. EV for short. Gaining 4 EV for a certain stat gives you 1 stat points. Certain Pokémon have certain EV for certain stats. Some Pokémon gives 2 hp EV, some give 1 attack and 1 defence, etc...
For example, a tentacool would give you 1 SP. DEF EV if you Faint it. Each stat can gain up to 255 but since the game multiples by 4 to determine how much stats you gain, 252 is the same thing.
Chapter 4, IV
Individual Values, IV for short. these values cannot be changed once determined by the game. Each Pokémon is different. if you catch a magikarp for example, then catch another magikarp they would both have different stats before they gain any EV. Because they both have different IVs. IVs determines how much stats will change by level. Each stat can have up to 31 IV, 1 IV minimum.
