The Santa hat is a re-sold item. SAFEBIN.NET Santa hats appeared randomly all over RuneScape on 25 December 2002, and players could pick up as many as they wanted. They are now a cosmetic item, having the stat bonuses eliminated after the transition to RuneScape 2 and there is no requirement to equip.
The 2015 Christmas event update allowed you to combine this Santa hat and Santa beard to create a Santa beard.
Although Jagex initially described them as "just to have enjoyment" however, they have now become a sought-after product among players.

15 Days of Christmas[edit | edit source]
This item was given hybrid style combat and stats that were matched to the player's level during the 15 Days of Christmas 2013. This was done to make sure that players could use the items in battle to help them hunt for festive crackers during this event.

The Santa hat was referred to as "Santa's hat" in
RuneScape Classic
. It also gave +3 to Magic. The 2010 Christmas Event saw the Forgotten Warriors (males and females) of Daemonheim wear either a Santa Hat or a Christmas Scarf. The Dungeoneering skillcape, which was situated on a stand close to Thok it was replaced with its usual hood replaced by the Santa Hat for the duration. Since 2014, the majority of bosses wear a Santa hat for the Christmas celebration. This also affects their models in other places such as quests and cutscenes.
